Finding a lawyer and building a case takes time. Given the fact that the event file data is incorrect and that he lied about what an SAO was, I'd say that Beck won't emerge from this ordeal unscathed.


Its not about tolerance. It's about the dangers that these propagandists represent. Suppose someone would have killed this kid because Glenn Beck told people that he was a terrorist. How would you feel of you were made a target and starting getting harassed by right wing loonies?

If you're a public figure, you can't sue for defamation of character (technically you can, but there's a higher burden of proof). Private citizens can sue public figures if those public figures use their resources to slander the individual in question. And your example with the President makes no sense; it's not just a lie, it's a lie about a specific person. If the President held a press conference to tell the world that piasabird was likely a terrorist and wanted in conjunction with a terror attack that killed people even though you'd been exonerated and the claim was completely false, you'd absolutely have the right to sue him.
