I'm just thinking that most get them when they are young because they have bad eyesight to begin with ... not that they've deteriorated.

And deteriorating I would think would happen at around 50 or so... as you get "old". I didn't think there'd be scientific reason for them to go bad if they've been good up to this point...

My eyes have gotten worse over the past 12 years that I have had glasses. Eyesight can go at any time.

Oh wait! I wear glasses.
I'm still fine... which is amazing considering I spend well over 10 hours a day in front of a computer and then I play xbox on top of it. I'm just worried for the short term (within 10-20 years) if it does happen. I guess I do have worse things to worry about.

I don't know how much of it is hereditary but my father didn't need glasses until after 50. I'm 28 and don't wear them yet.

most people need glasses to correct for distance at an early age.
as we get older our lens in our eyes is less pliable and is not as responsive to being focused. that is why we need reading glasses as we get older.

when you get older your eyes weaken and your near-point (closest distance you can focus) gets further away. thats why you see older people holding their menus out at arms length :) this is also why they get reading glasses.

I'm 42 and have had glasses for most of my life. In the past year, my near focus has been getting worse and I probably should get bifocals now.

Mrs. Elektro is laughing at me.
