Glaring example of Trumptard total denial of reality and why it is impossible to reason with them.

I thought this thread was about how to reach or discuss things with Trump voters. Was just trying to give some insight into that. I recognize many of you are past this point.
Until someone is willing to approach the table with genuinely positive intent, and rational decision making, I'd just as soon write them off as a lost cause. If so many of us are lost, then so be it, lets vote in King Trump and his family of idiots to rule this pile of dirt until we all die from coronavirus or climate change or whatever idiotic crisis we've created/hobbled ourselves into being unable to handle.

You aren't going to convince any Trump supporters to change because for the most part they don't think they are any of these things. This is the foundation of the interaction you are having. This has to be addressed before there can be any traction in discussion of policy.

Per my 6 deplorable friends......you can’t reason with them. Totally impossible, they lack the ability to reflect upon stuff. Being right or winning is their only concern.

I know many conservitive people, and while they are a diverse group, they all have one thing in common: a complete inability to compromise even a little bit on any of their policy positions. It is always completely black or white.

To some extent I agree with you, but IMO it's a mistake to think that (most of the time) people call Trump supporters these things simply because they support Trump, but mostly rather because they've already attempted to engage with some of his supporters and that is their feeling about that person after having done so. For example, in another thread, a Trump supporter denounced another person for 'promoting murder', then refused to meaningfully address my counterpoint that he gave Trump the greatest possible endorsement despite admitting he disagreed with Trump also 'promoting murder' yet felt it was appropriate to call someone else out for the same behaviour.

I think a problem is that many Trump supporters see Trump getting away with very problematic behaviour and then when they repeat that behaviour themselves, they get antsy when people call them out for it, and while I agree that say calling someone a racist POS does exacerbate the situation, if it was a factually appropriate descriptor then it's simply calling a spade a spade.

Previously I've read about situations where a person with extreme viewpoints has been convinced of the errors of their ways through calm and collected discourse, and I'd love to achieve that kind of objective myself with such people, the big question is how to identify such people. Many people are simply wilfully ignorant however, and I think spending time trying to civilly discourse with such people to achieve a productive end is simply a waste of time. "You can lead a horse to water but you cannot make it drink".

Oh, and Moonie describes everyone as Self-loathing, including himself. He does not even see it as a insult, but a discription of the basic human condition.
If I hated myself I'd be dead. I do too many really risky things to have survived. I live on the edge every time I lace up my skates, ride my bike. Until less than a year ago I did those things with no protection other than a pair of gloves... but my physical therapist got on my case, explained that I should wear a helmet when doing those things, that one fall/etc. could change my life completely. "Nothing will be the same." I've worn my helmet ever since. Haven't had that accident, but hey, if I hated myself, I'd have had it a long time ago.

How about calling them those names when they deny reality? I would reverse the roles. Trump supporters will tolerate all kind of abhorrent behavior from Trump until it is turned on them.

I agree.

They should stop being those things and then we can have meaningful discussion!

Re: the people you described in your OP - I wonder how they'd respond if you said, "well, if you think all of that is BS, despite Trump straight-up admitting most of them or it being on the record that he's said/done these things, how would you feel if I claimed that Pete Buttigieg being gay is BS?".

I brought up the Access Hollywood tape because the entire country heard it and is easiest example. Got no direct response to that. One person said all my examples were out of context.

Why is it people on the left can still function in a fact based world despite the polarization? Righties need their own existence where past actual events "never happened".
