Gladiator out on DVD but not in VHS?

I went to Wal-Mart looking for Gladiator and they only had the DVD, so I went to Future Shop and they only had the DVD and said the VHS won't be out for a couple of months!! And yet Block Buster has it to rent in VHS....Is the 'to buy' VHS version being delayed or what?

I really want this movie!!

They do this so blockbuster/hollywood video/etc. etc. can make money from rentals.

Retail VHS typically comes out later than the rental VHS. If you want, you can probably purchase it on amazon.com on VHS. Beware that it will probably cost you over $100, since you'll be buying the rental version. In a few months it will be out on retail VHS for <$20, so it's probably better to just wait.

you have to &quot;buy&quot; the version that allows you to rent if you want it on vhs right now. its gonna run you over $100 though. that thing i haven't figured out yet is when you buy the &quot;rental&quot; version, are they giving you consent to rent it out for a fee and profit from it? even if you aren't a business?

That's all fine &amp; dandy, but you wanna know what the replacement cost will be? Over $100. That's what it's worth, that's what you'll pay. You'd be better off just buying it from amazon.com &amp; getting the actual box, etc.

How come they didn't do this with other movies such as Perfect Storm and X-Men?

they do it for high demand movies and some other marketing criteria. not that xmen isn't high demand but i guess they wanted to get everyone to buy the dvd's first. this happened before dvd's became mainstream as well though.

Cause Gladiator was a hit and got great reviews.

Saving Private Ryan was also released on DVD 1st, then later VHS.
