Hi guys,

I am a total newbie so I wonder if someone can point me to the right direction.

I would like to know what is the order of the video card suffix.
Take nVidia Geforce 6800 series for example.

Is it like 6800 LE < 6800 < 6800 GT < 6800 Ultra

How about ATI, I believe they have something similar? Could anyone tell me the order of performance of those suffixes (and what they are).

Thanks in advance guys. (noob here)

I think for ATI its: GT < PRO < XL < XT < XT PE.

GT = not so good
PRO = good
XL = very good
XT = really good
XT PE = really really good

Thanks Coomar, the GPU database is quite good (quite easy to see how things go around in performance). Now the only thing I need is nVidia-vs-ATI cards chart. (In case I want to switch back and forth)

Note the ATI X850 Pro...even though it's got the top "chip" (i.e., the 850 core), it's slower than the X800XL (albeit...only by 1-2 FPS) due to having only 12 rendering pipelines instead of 16 like the X800XL

Along this same vein, is it true that Pinnacle, Matrox and Canopus make a better card for video? I am confused about what to get, i need to get a complete video editing system built, with Liquid Edition as the primary software.

Yeah, buts its the 16 pipe vs 12 pipe that makes the big difference.

true, but JBT is correct that their performance is very close (5-10% diff at most).

btw, it's interesting that GT is lower then vanilla for ATI X800, unlike Nvidia where GT is better then vanilla. X800 vanilla has 12 pipes vs 8 pipes of the X800GT, but the core and memory clocks are way lower. So can anyone confirm the X800 is faster then X800GT like the coomar's table suggest ? btw, that table is wrong because 6600GT is actually faster then 6800 vanilla.

6800 < 6600GT << X800 << X800Pro < X850Pro < 6800GT < X800XL << X800XT < 6800U <
X850XT
