Are they really using independently scrolling frames? Is this Netscape Navigator 2.0?

when something is so old and tacky, it eventually becomes retro, hip and cool with the younger crowd. It makes the rest of us barf.

Independently-scrolling frames doesn't bother me, in fact I find it kind of awesome, if I'm using a touchscreen.

But on a computer with mouse and keyboard, it's annoying as shit.

Here's to hoping they kind of keep this only as a tablet/fancy-mobile version.
I'd love to use that layout on my nookColor, it looks designed for screens larger than phones but smaller than desktop monitors. If I have to keep using that layout to view it on my desktop, I'll only read the gawker sites on my nook or rss reader on my phone.

The navigation bar being on the right like that is a huge mindf*ck. 10 steps backwards and I'm usually all about redesigns. Obviously when they're done correctly..

I saw they moved to this on Kotaku too. I closed the tab for it and removed it from my bookmarks. It wasn't that great to start with and I just went there to catch any stuff I missed, but now it isn't even worth going too.

Google reader is your friend.

Then again if you post here and you're still hitting up the front page of tech blogs you're probably a lost cause.

I saw absolutely nothing until I reenabled Java.
As soon as I saw it I wanted to disable Java again.

gizmodo, gawker, jalopnik, they're all the same company running the shit. When one updates layout, they'll all update.

Wow... Thanks to the redesign, I can only fit half as much of the damn article on the screen than I could before. That sucks.

meh, what they need is more quality control, less output flood of mediocrity.

I've decided to not shave my neckbeard until you change to your old name. You better do it soon or my fiancée will not be happy with either of us.

That layout only uses 1/2 my screen width and I browse at 125% magnification. This ain't 1998 for people to have ~1000 pixels wide monitor screens. o_O Then again, AnandTech & Ars Technica and many other sites are barely wider.

Gizmodo have gone down the same route as Jalopnik and others with a new/ awful layout.

See for yourself: http://us.gizmodo.com/

So what path do you follow, Hal 9000? What do you do with the web page that you make your living off of? There is clearly something wrong here, clearly, but that something is a self-hate you have had reflected back at you. No doubt the function of the sight isn't the problem, but rather, the function of the user.

For my next trick I will channel neck-beard:
