i created a thread the other day but no one could help... so i've decided to re-format but need some advice.

what would you do?

i was thinking about partioning the drive (300gb SATA) with one for windows & the other for program files, pics, music etc.. ? why & how big for the partitions?

also, i'd like to take a "snapshot" of the clean install + necessary programs so I don't have to revert all the way back to point 0. any suggestions?

if you have othe suggestions about how you would go about your new install, please comment.

thanks a ton,
robert

I would make 2 partitions, first about 20 to 30gb for O/S, second the remainder to hold all other stuff including a copy of all relevant drivers, etc. need for fresh install and maybe an image of your fresh install but I say maybe because I don't think saving an image of your O/S will really do you much good since I don't think using an image to get back a blown O/S is the way to go.

Good luck.

I would put the OS and the programs on the same partition, because if you ever need to reformat the OS partition, you'll have to reinstall all your programs anyway. Also, that way you can install all programs in their default directory which is nice. Make a second partition for data files.
