Given the Iraq Study Group and Gates hearings . . . how many right-wing loons are still in denial?

I guess it's not surprising considering Santorum is wacky and Bunning is senile.

"Mr. Gates has repeatedly criticized our efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan, without providing any viable solutions to the problems our troops currently face," Bunning said in a statement entered into the Senate record.

"I am concerned with the message he is sending to our troops and our allies around the world."

Bunning also said Gates "believes in directly engaging rogue nations such as Iran and Syria that are known sponsors of terrorist groups in Iraq, Lebanon and the West Bank and Gaza."

"I do not support inviting terrorists to the negotiating table," he said.

After Gates was confirmed, Santorum -- who lost his seat in the November election amid a wave of unhappiness about the Iraq war -- took to the Senate floor.

He delivered a nearly hourlong speech, warning of the dangers of not confronting "Islamic fascism" and its budding alliances with anti-American countries such as Venezuela, North Korea and Cuba.

"We are sleepwalking through the storm," Santorum said. "How do those who deny this evil propose to save us from these people? By negotiating through the U.N. or directly with Iran? By firing Don Rumsfeld, (and) now getting rid of John Bolton? That's going to solve the problem?"

He said he felt Gates is not "up to the task."
If you believe Bunning wrote his statement . . . not likely . . . he's basically saying the troops and 'diminishing' coalition of the willing need a pep talk instead of straight talk.

Both Bunning and Santorum ignored (or are ignorant of) the fact the US directly engaged Iran to help with Afghanistan . . . with no preconditions. And even Bushistas admit that Iran's assistance was beneficial.

Santorum appears totally confused. I thought the Islamic fascist were Al Qaeda and radical Shia/Sunni. Last I checked none of them have relations with Venezuela, DPRK, or Cuba.

It's hard to believe that someone genuinely believes Rummy and the 'stache were solving problems. And it's downright delusional to think of either man as 'saving us from evil.'

I wonder if James 'miracle in Iraq' Inhoffe voted for Gates?

Probably all the loons will oppose the Baker report---they have already decided they were right all along---and just placed too much trust in an incompetent named GWB who proved unable to implement their fine ideas.

But old RicK S. can tell this to all his buddies down at the local bar---with many of the drinkers also retired---and they will likely nod their heads and agree---as long as Rick keeps buying the drinks.

All the rest of us need to be asking ourselves why we waited so long to realize Iraq was totally broken and doomed from the start.

That report refers to the Palestinian ?right to return?. Suppose it?s a solid guideline for concession to Islamic radicals, which is what we want right?

Don't listen to anyone but our President and Vice-President. Everyone else (and I do mean EVERYONE) is just trying to confuse you and give aid and comfort to our enemies.

Stay the course!

As of yesterday the right wing talking heads were trying to discredit the Baker panel, not by addressing the points they made, but by discrediting the panel itself. Glen Beck himself worships Santorum and his will to fight in the on-coming apocalypse.

This is just Santorum's last chance to be in the papers, he's a lame duck and will very soon be relegated to the lobbying circuit, petitioning lawmakers on behalf of the 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

By the very definition of "right-wing loons", I am sure that almost all of them are still in denial.

Santorum could have invited Sean Hannity to the floor of the Senate to speak for an hour and he probably would have spewed the same crap. It's clear that the true believers in the neocon dream want to turn "Islamo-fascism" into the new communism and alienate (if not outright attack) countries like Iran and Syria. Left to their own devices, idiots like Santorum would craft the perfect conditions for unending war and conflict across the planet for the next 50 years or so.

After the invasion of Afghanistan, everything was going swell, the neoconservative vision of democracy popping up everywhere in the Middle East was taking place. Then dissent started. People started questioning the President, which then led the terrorists to conclude that all they had to do was keep fighting and eventually America would lose the will to defeat them.

So comments which would appear to us as prescient examples of those who foresaw the folly of the Bush Doctrine are instead taken by Bush loyalists as proof that the problems in Iraq were not foreseen by the critics, but were caused by the critics.

In sum, if things had gone well in Iraq, then Bush would be vindicated and the critics were wrong, If things go wrong in Iraq, then it's the fault of the critics and Bush would be vindicated.

This sort of mental gymnastics is the same central mechanism that allows cult members to keep believing even after their beliefs have been disconfirmed by reality.

Santorum & Bunning are correct. You people don't realize that... the Iraqis have to stand up so the US can stand down... It's hard work... Freedom & democracy... They hate our freedom... Saddam has WMD's and he will use them... Mushroom clouds... Purple fingers are great... Last throes... Bring it on... Mission Accomplished.

Run out of Iraq now and maybe Iran will take it over. I am sure that will make the whole region a lot more safer.

Run like the cowards that you are.

Dont worry, because after they take over Isreal, they will be coming to the USA to blow you up. These people will not be satisfied untill everyone on earth is a Muslim. If you think you can be safe playing the coward, then you are wrong. They only understand strength through Tyrany.

So as long as the left-wingers maintain their belief that we can all get together and hold hands with the Iranians and Syrians, there is no point even trying to talk to them.

Ah, so James Baker and Lee Hamilton are left wingers?

That pretty much puts your position in perspective.
