Among my favorite genres is the RPG; up until now, that's been limited almost exclusively to MMOs.
I've had a "hankering" for a "basic" hack and slash loot grab of an RPG for a long time now, and virtually no game has "cut the mustard" for me. Torchlight came close and I eagerly await Torchlight II, but no luck besides.
I finally sat down and played through the Diablo 2 demo recently. I have no idea why it took so long for me to do it, but I did, and I really enjoyed it. So much so that I played it through three times over. Just the demo.
"Well," you might say, "what more reason do you need?" I don't, and quite frankly I'll probably buy it regardless of what's said here.
I want to ask you avid Diablo 2 players just what makes you love D2 so much. What puts it head and shoulders above most other RPGs, similar or not, and made it worthy of seeing so, so many clones made of its deceptively simple formula? Just how many hours have you logged playing D2 and how many more do you have to go before you're through?
Ultimately, if I were undecided or maybe even against my buying it for whatever reason, what might you say (what grand lengths might you go out of love for this game) to get me to buy it? I know, I know, in the end it all depends on the person whether they will enjoy a game enough to purchase it, I'm purely curious here.
