So what do you folks who have used Mandrake prior to 8.2 think about this new version ? I first used Mandrake since around 7.2 and it was the first distro I tried when I first started Linux and I liked it. Mandrake 8 and 8.1 both left a sour taste in my mouth for some reason but 8.2 has me thinking of at least keeping it on my drive along side SuSe even though I don't need to but I really like it. The install process was a breeze as always and their Mandrake Control Panel seems to be much improved but IMHO still not as good as Yast2 but thats my opinion. I also like the way they setup Gnome's Control Panel and the layout of the menu in KDE as well. Another thing I liked about it that shows how well Mandrake is listening to it's users finally is that Evolution is now the default email client that loads up every time you click on a email link. Sure it's not a big deal since I could manually do the same thing very easily but it just shows that they care about the little things to help out the user somewhat. I also like that they fixed supermount and it works great now in this version.
About the only problem I have had so far was with Nvidia drivers which of course we can only blame Nvidia for since they are the ones who handle the drivers for Linux now that they made them close source. I solved that problem easily by editing my modules.conf file in the /etc directory and editing the line that read ==> alias /dev/nvidia/* NVdriver <== and changing it to ==> alias /dev/nvidia* NVdriver <==. So basically I removed the / in front of nvidia. Other then that it's been smooth sailing and am thinking of purchasing at least the standard version just to help them out and support their work as well since it's coming along very nicely. Now I am waiting to see what SuSe has to offer when 8.0 comes out around April 22nd since I have already pre-order it.
P.S. Rumor is that KDE 3.0 final will be out in about 2-3 weeks from now.
