Give me your opinion on my experience with Monarch

Got a unique problem and dont know how to best address the issue. Two identical builds, between neighbor and myself. Ordering same parts from Monarch on two different orders and ended up with an old version of the Enermax PSU on the second order that was placed days after the first, and the second indentical PSU doesnt have SLI support! Even though their web page plaining states it plainly does!

They want me to ship it back to them under an RMA, but try and pry a working PSU out of a shiny new gaming computer in the hands of three gaming starved teenagers, that they have been playing non stop for 72 hrs, in 8 hr tag team shifts, and tell them that "sorry no games for the time it takes to get shipped back to Monarch, the RMA processed and then shipping time back here to reinstall what should have been shipped correctly in the first place!

Seems like Monarch tried to stick a bunch of kids with old product and I was wondering if a DFI/Monarch rep could help sort it out. I would happily buy another PSU unit first for them and then RMA the old PSU for a cash refund, but Monarch then whats to charge me a restocking fee for that convenience to cover their deviousness in shipping an old product line under the same item number!

Isnt that pretty much a bait and switch?

I can understand that business is business and when on the second order there was also a non-sli capable video card ordered (upgrading an old pc- but then Monarch backordered it as they had oversold) they put 2 + 2 and got 5, thinking that an SLI PSU was not required and here was the opportunity to move an older version of the product and still keep the customer happy.

I have only heard great things about Monarch, and have great success with them in the past, but the CS rep I spoke to was rather sharp and unyielding. I would have pushed harder and moved up the food chain, but after a long hold time, and the discussion with the CS rep, a client called on the other line and I had to cut it short.

I PM'd MonarchJoe last week before this post, but maybe he is on vacation as I dont have a response yet.

wait for monarchjoe, he'll take care of it. i'm sure they'll just send you one and you return the other.

if you can't wait for joe, call monarch and ask for a superivisor. i can't imagine this would be problem.

he hangs around cpu/oc'ing mostly for pre-order stuff. but he's a pretty nice guy, seems to help alot.

What are the specs of the two PS's? What's the difference?

IMO the new ATX 2.0 spec dual rail PS's (supposedly SLI ready) are a step backwards and are causing many problems especially on NF4 boards. I've worked with at least 5 people in the last few months that ended up RMA'ing their new ATX 2.0 dual rail power supplies and getting the older single rail version and their problems disappear.

If the old one is a single rail with strong amps on the 12v rail, I would consider myself lucky, its a better PS than the ATX 2.0

Sorry sig not working -- the older doesnt have second sli vid power cable is the most obvious diffrence. Havent check anything else really, I just wanted two identical systems so it is easier to support them both, and easily interchangable parts without adding new conflicts during ts.

It could be that Monarch put the "older" PSU in there since they didn't think you'd need it. It could also be an honest mistake, and they didn't do it on purpose. So I wouldn't assume it's a blatant case of bait and switch.

That being said, I would think they should be willing to cross ship you the new version. Of course, then you would have to do the replacement yourself, which means they should then waive the restock fee on the returned unit. That, to me, seems only fair.

The alternative is that they should cover return shipping for the whole unit and replace it for free.

I imagine Joe would be willing to help you out, as previously stated, or you could try and go "higher up the chain" by calling them.

I've been away from AT for a bit, been working on several projects. Just to let everyone know, I did respond to the PM sent to me and am awaiting a response so I can help out fourf. It does seem like it was an inventory mistake, so I should be able to have it corrected quickly. I hope everyone's enjoying their holiday weekend!

Yes, and after I got some free time to start the customer service issue all over again yesterday, I had much much better results.

In fact they helped me solve a rebate issue (thanks Joe) on top of agreeing with me to cross ship a replacement PSU so I dont have to bloody myself, fighting 3 frenzied gaming crazied teenagers to rip apart what is in their eyes a perfectly working gaming computer of their dreams!

If all I have to do is swap one PSU out and put the new one in, I can do that while distracting them with some freshly BBq'd ribs and a Tivo'd Simpsons episode, and be in and out before they even realize it stopped working for a few minutes!

Total change of heart on Monarch. My second experience is the way CS should work! I guess I caught some one on a bad day.
