I stated in another thread that I make an avg salary about 45k and had a huge school loan that was charging me about $100 interest a month plus I got to start planning ahead and maybe buying an engagement ring next year and my CC with the 0% APR is ending soon so I've got pay that off. I've got over 5k in the savings but when the introductory rate ends I'll have a 6k bill I've got to take care of fast. I'm trying to pay the school loan off quicker by looking for a 2nd job but in the mean time I've got to find ways to save money. Each month I've got living expenses, utilities, car payments, credit card payments, school loan payments, food, gas, insurance etc. It adds up so fast so today I canceled the cable tv, DSL, extra features of my phone service, my cell contract will be coming up soon and I don't plan on renewing it. I already have that Ralphs club card so I save some on groceries. Where else can one save money?

sell your car and buy a used one that you don't have to make monthly payments on. sounds like you have a lot of heavy expenses that won't be helped much by small savings here and there.

oh I'm already shuddering at the thought of loosing my DSL and installing the 2 free months of AOL. stopped visiting the hot deals and chubby wallet so I'm already saving $500 a month. :) Do I need to sell drugs or take it the ass?

Sell your car and buy a used one that still runs nicely. Otherwise, get a small loan to pay all that off and pay it off over the next year or two.

With a used car that you own, you aren't forced to carry as much coverage on it by the lending institution... You can cut your insurance premium by at least half if you get the minimum necessary in your state. (but, if you're in a state where none is required, (kentucky?), at least get liability.

Don't eat out.

Start liquidating all your assets.

Sell CDs, DVDs, Instruments, Computer Hardware, Stereo, Radio.

Try to use public restrooms more often, try to conserve water, electricity, gas.

Sell your books.

Sell your car, and ride a bike or better yet PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION.

Sell furniture.

The important thing to remember is to consolidate and liquidate all your assets.

And if it comes down to it, stand near the side of road on the on ramp to major highways or streets and have a funny sign asking for donations.

Good Luck!

Real easy.

When you buy anything at all ask yourself "do I really need this? Do I really want to spend this money and is this a value that I will use?"

If not, then don't buy. Like the cell phone...do you really need a cell phone? Probably not.

-edit-

You have way too many monthly expenses. Also, no need to pay off your student loans quickly.

-double edit...thinking back- cook at home, drink at home, take advantage of 25 cent buffalo wings night and happy hour. 12 bucks will make a nice wednesday night.

Don't use credit, if you don't have the cash, it's probably because you're in debt.
As suggested, use public toilets... it works!
Don't use a shopping list. Buy good deals in bulk, and only get things that are below normal price.
Get a foam soap dispenser. You can refill these baby's with about 1/20 of body wash/shampoo to water.
Wear your jeans/ pants a few times before washing them.
Wear sandals so you don't wear out your socks and dont have any to wash.
Find hobbies that make money instead of cost money.
Be resourceful, I find many people have good stuff (food, clothes, furniture, etc) they just don't want anymore.
If you live up north, insulate.... Use rope caulk on windows, v-strip or foam/ rubber around doors, etc.
Use fluorescent lights... they don't just save electric; they save on replacement costs and time.

I lived very good on 20k a year. Bought a $3k car and a 3k Home theatre setup in the same two months with cash. Geo Prizm (like a toyota corolla but ~$1k cheaper). Read reviews on big purchases. I also buy a lot of computer equipment that's moddable, OC'able. I almost never get the "fastest" cpu or vid card, yet my PC is almost always "near" the top after modding. I sell off my old equipment, and keep nothing I don't use. At a certain point, your old PC stuff can sell for about what you have to pay to upgrade. Walk instead of drive when you can. You'll save mileage, gas, maintenance costs, and in my case time. It's actually quicker for me to get to the bank, store, doctor, etc on foot than in a car. If I get a sore throat for over 3 days, I go to the pet store instead of the doctor. Many of the fish tank antibiotics are the same as those prescribed for humans. Don't live in a place that cost you most of your income. I've managed to keep my rent lower than 1 week's pay. I'd buy a house, but don't know where I'll be working in a year.
