The PJ cover is better. In the original, the singer is waaay too upbeat considering his gf just died.

i like classic rock too if anyone knows any

ELP - Lucky Man for example... not that depressing though

I need some tunes that when you just hear the instruments you want to break down

These songs are still to upbeat

When i hear color blind or brick i just want to curl up in a ball and be left alone for a month or 2 :)

Do a search for song or songs, there have been quite a large number of threads on this subject lately.

Pretty much anything by Meatload works for depressing, particularly "2 out of 3 ain't bad" or "Objects in the Rearview Mirror May Appear Closer than they are."
Jackson Browne's "The Pretender" is great too.

And shoddycomp, I searched and searched and I don't think that Cat Stevens ever covered Harry Chapin's Cat's in the Cradle, although a lot of other people have.
edit: from CatStevens.com:
Q: DID CAT STEVENS SING/WRITE "CAT'S IN THE CRADLE?":
No. "Cat's In The Cradle" was written and recorded by Harry Chapin. This is a VERY common misconception. Recently there have been a number of Cat's In The Cradle MP3 files on Napster that claim to be either Cat Stevens (Bio), or Harry Chapin and Cat Stevens. They are not, it's just Harry. Or in some cases some other artist who recorded the song. Cat not only didn't write the song but never performed it. Not live, not in the studio, and not even privately.

The original was done by Buddy Holly.... :|

Pretty much anything by Meatload works for depressing.

Nope sorry it was done about 6 years after he died by J. Frank Wilson & The Cavaliers.

But then again why be depressed? I was sad a few days ago and listening to depressing music then I was like, wait why bother being sad it just takes more effort.
