I am in the market for a new SUV.

< $30K

I have looked at:

Dodge Durango
Ford Explorer
Saturn Vue
Mitsubishi Endevour
Toyota Highlander
Nissan Murano (A little over 30)
Nissan Pathfinder Armada (this has the best looks in my opinion but its big!)
Honda Pilot

> $30K

I have looked at:

(All of these guys end up around $40K with options)

Lexus RX330
Infiniti FX35
Acura MDX
Cadillac SRX (this is a sweet ride!)

Right now in the sub 30K the durango looks the best
In the above 30K the infiniti looks the best

Any thoughts or ideas? I know a lot of you are car people so i was hoping to get your opinions. Any vehicles i should defintely go and look at before i decide? Any convinceing reasons why I should bump up to the higher priced luxury vehicles.

Also remeber that no vehicle bigger then the durango will fit in my garage so it has to less than or equal to that in size so now expedition or yukon denali etc.

thanks for your help guys

You should go for the X5 4.8is. ;)

Actually out of the bunch, either the Lexus or Infiniti is your best bet, but that's just my personal opinion. If you're going to spend $30k+, you might as well go a bit more for luxury too.

I've been driving an SUV since '95 and there's no way I'd back out of a car decision based on gas prices alone, no matter how high. And I've filled up at $2.15 before. SUVs offer more options than your typical passenger car... even if you don't get to use it everyday. I wish people would realize that. Not everything is based on money. :|

Forget the Mitsubishi and the Saturn. If you want the Saturn, go straight for the Equinox.

Under $30k, I'd go for the Highlander...

Over $30k, what are you looking for out of this SUV? The MDX will allow you to cart around the most stuff, the FX35 won't allow you to car around ANYTHING. The Nissan Murano is more functional than the FX... how come it didn't make your list? How about the Nissan Pathfinder Armada?

^ not everyone's [important] DECISIONS [which will affect their next 10 years] are based on money alone. ^

My Dad has a Toyota Highlander and loves it to death. It is not too big, but can still haul stuff. Gets decent gas millage. Its a nice ride, and is pretty luxurious especially for the money.

name one crucial feature your sub-30K SUV's offer that you can't get in a subaru wagon. hell, a subaru will kick the crap out of most of your options (in either price range) in off-road ability alone. which pretty much makes a SUV an exercise in futility. you're riding the bandwagon.

edit: oh yeah, i should be productive and actually choose from the list. :) i'd say highlander below 30K and FX above 30K, assuming the FX has enough room for you (it has a pretty tiny cargo area, dwarfed by most wagons, but it's probably fast and fun).

Dodge Magnum if you're going that route. New Durango looks like anus IMO. If you would take one of the >30k I'd suggest the Infinity FX... way better than the likes of Lexus and especially Acura in that category.

Toyota 4Runner? They look great, and with the V8 they get up and move pretty well. Reliability and resale will be top notch too.
