shoot

p.s. are there any new CS updates coming out? such as cs1.6 -> source? and also, i miss the shield =(

I've heard the new Resident Evil game is pretty demanding and addicting.

Wait for the new ATI cards to come out. Triple monitor support will make it worth upgrading. Until then a 8800GT is good enough.

Crysis

Actually, I didnt think the game was shit hot, but it will definitely make humble about your fancy pants 8800GT.

Yea the game will rough your card up if you take the resolution up high and turn any of the graphical options above medium. However, i found the game fun either way. It still looks better than most games with all the settings turned down.

You can do it two different ways. Keep the graphical settings low but turn the resolution up higher. This makes the game sharper. Or turn the graphical settings up high, but keep the resolution low, like 1024x768. It will look pixelated, especially on a bigger monitor, but you get the see the nice shaders, time of day lighting, etc.

Also, Crysis:Wars, the multiplayer component of Crysis:Warhead, is rather fun. Since most people who play Crysis are diehard gamers, you get alot of competition from good players, even if there isn't a ton of them. I can always jump into good battles at any time of the day. Also, Crysis has hella mods, probably more so than anyother game.

The difference between the new games and the Source engine games, is that the Source engine is more CPU demanding than GPU demanding. I am pretty much in the same spot you are. I only really play source engine games...CS:S, TF2, and L4D. My video card plays all those on high setting at no less than 80fps, so while I too have the itch to upgrade my video card, I know that it is not worth it at this time.

I haven't heard anything on a new CS:S so I don't really know when the next time I will need a video card will be. I would say L4D2, but I need to see if it is still more dependent on the CPU or GPU before upgrading anything.

If you enable the Physics stuff and max the AA in the new Batman game, it can bring your card to it's knees. At least it did with my GTX 260 when I tried running it at 8x full AA at 1920x1080 w/ PhysX at Normal.

It's not that demanding

thats way over twice what I am getting with a gtx260 and nearly twice of what a setup like that should be getting.

EDIT: you have TWO overclocked gtx280 cards in SLI with 3.8 i7. perhaps you should state that since the screenshot doesnt make that apparent. also I assume that was the highest settings but was AA on in those runs?

Well, my rig is in the sig. The game doesn't show overclocking or multi card info. This was with everything on in the game without AA. nVidia drivers were at default settings.
