Give me one reason to keep my DVD drive in.

Tempted to pull it. I like the idea of the the front of the case being perfectly flat. I have optical drives in a couple laptops and other machines in my house. Everything I need to do can be done with flash/USB drives. Unless I get some compelling reason from someone here, I'm pulling it tomorrow. Or Friday.

You may need it to rip some optical disc in the future. Lian Li makes a 5.25 front cover that lies flatter than the actual drive. If you will never use it then take it out. Leave it if you may have a need. I rarely use them any more. I am currently working on a project to rip DVD images directly to my file server. I hate physical discs, but there are a lot of data out there you may want to access some day.

I haven't had an optical drive in my PC's for ages. I keep a USB Bluray burner in the closet for the rare case I need one.

Haha is this a hostage situation? 😀

If you haven't used it in the last 3 months, just pull it, you probably won't use it again.

The loud sounds it makes when you power on you compute let you know that you pushed the right button, and the gears and motor whirring give your computer an old-timey or steampunk feel.

This is actually a compelling reason. I might delay this decision now.

It sure is. I love the sound of my ASUS dvd 'two beeps of servo' in the morning. It's like being greeted by a personal assistant without all the annoying AI Bob/Siri crap.

Because it's already there and you never know. One day I'm sure I'll buy a case that simply doesn't have a 5 1/4" drive bay or a slim ODD slot and on that day I'll stop using them, until then it doesn't hurt that I have it there.

That's my Lian Li case! I have a combo drive in mine. Its like a lot of little odds and ends on a PC. I may not use every single port or every single slot, but that doesn't mean I don't want them. I've actually used the DVD drive to burn a few discs in the last couple months. As someone said, its not going to be perfectly flat regardless. But hey, if you have other PCs with them and just want the stock face plate back in there why not?

If ever you have to reinstall Windows. Or are you running Linux? Most Linux distros can be installed through USB.

Either way it is handy to have one and they're cheap, unless you need the sata port for more drives.

How is the cooling in that case, seems to me it is lacking in front intake holes. Components today need a lot of cooling and air flow.

It's a fantastic case. Actually, airflow is reversed. Cool air comes in from the back, blows across mobo/cpu and is exhausted out front. Big, quiet fans. I don't OC and the system always stays very cool. Fans never turn up much for anything. The PSU is mounted in the front. Very unique case. Full ATX not that big but very big if you know what I mean. PC-AO5B.

Since going external years ago, I'd never waste the space going internal again. Though I watercool everything so those internal bays usually get reserved by fan controllers.

I actually forgot my PC has a bd drive in there. Not sure if it still works. I like the idea of having an external in the closet.

I have an external USB opt drive and believe me, they do come in handy when you need it. I say hold on to it for another 10 years.

It still won't be perfectly flat because of the ugly cutouts. :colbert:

Here's the case I use, the Jonsbo W2. Perfectly flat front, full size ATX, with DVD-ROM in the back.

There have been times I've lost all 3 of my pendrives and had to resort to using a DVD to install windows 7. I guess that doesn't count much for Win10.
