Give me a list of some recent good single player games that are out?

I really enjoyed the single player of Company of Heroes. Get the Orange Box as it's only $10 this weekend through Steam and play Half Life 2 and all it's add-ons plus Portal which is an awesome single player experiance.

Assault on Dark Athena is the continuation of the Chronicles of Riddick, Escape from Butcher Bay .. about 20 hours of FPS-stealth joy if you play through the graphically redone EfBB. It is a solid game.

STALKER, Clear Sky would be another great FPS with RPG elements

if you like FarCry, FarCry2 - set in Africa - is another great FPS game

empire total war has a lot of potential if you're into strategy games. but it's way too buggy to really recommend right now.

If you like Far Cry I wouldn't suggest you'd like Far Cry 2. FC2 and FC have very little in common.
Crysis, fairly obviously, felt quite similar to FC, but FC2 felt completely different (because, well, it was).
Crysis is like FC set in the future, FC2 is like a completely different game.

true but i did not say they were "the same" :p
-- i mentioned the African setting vs. tropical isle - of course, the story is totally different - it is not a sequel; But the action is similar .. like saying BioShock is the "spiritual successor" to anything - nevermind SS2.

FC2 is a good game in its own right ... i liked them both
[that is why i recommended it]

Clear Sky is "more STALKER" - but is the prequel

Assault on Dark Athena is a CONTINUATION of EfBB
[$30 at gogamer]

Mass Effect, Fallout 3, Crysis, Orange box

You need look no further, those are all awesome games! Waaay better than fear 2 or bioshock imo. On par with farcry 1.

You seem to like FPShooters, might I suggest Stalker: SHOC with the Oblivion Lost mod installed?

I agree with that list.

Surprisingly, Mirror's Edge was probably my favorite single player game released in 2008. It was short, but I greatly enjoyed the atmosphere of the game world.

There's also GRID, pretty good arcade-ish racing game with nice graphics.

The Witcher, but make sure you get the enhanced addition. It has a lot of fixes and much much shorter loading times.

I hated Far Cry 2, but I'd second the suggestion of Empire: Total War. If you took the main storyline from mass effect and the side quests from Fallout 3 then I'd recommend that game too.

I stopped playing it cause it takes 5 years to load on my system. Otherwise, it runs fine.

For the OP: Fallout 3 (wait until May 4 DLC for raised level cap), Stalker if you haven't, and Crysis.

Agree! This is fantastic value on the Orange Box you should take it while you can get it. Portal is a fantastic single player game. you also get the multiplayer madness of TF2, which isn't what you asked for, but it's a bonus right?

short but really good

This is mostly a multiplayer game - if you're not going to play online it's not worth the money IMO. The single player is great but I finished it in less than three hours.
