Is he not a moderate Republican with a somewhat liberal stance on social issues?

I would definately keep my eyes on this...as long as he doesn't go over the top with national security garbage.

Moderate Republicans are an endangered species, one of the main reasons being that Republicans will now vote Democrat but Democrats will not vote Republican.

I think he could be the President but his party wont elect him because of his baggage.

Giuliani cannot possibly win the primary without 'religious' conservatives. And it's going to be nearly impossible for him to get to the religious right of Romney, Brownback, Frist, or even McCain.

The same is basically true of Newt.

Now if enough of the red meat guys stay in the race to split the nutcase vote then Giuliani, McCain, and Newt have a fighting chance.

Giuliani is likely his own worse enemy . . . that and the Bush legacy. After the debacle of the unitary executive, the last thing the country wants is someone with an IQ>95 that believes in the theory of the unitary executive. His record in NYC is clearly double-edged. Plus after becoming 'America's Mayor' what did he do? Mad dash for dollars . . . including his great success at reducing crime in Mexico City

Well IMHO 2008 is the best chance an Independent may ever have at winning the Presidency. Thats if they are a quality moderate candidate. It also depends on Hillary getting the Dem nom and a non moderate republican getting the Republican nom.
