Girls who run away with an internet chat friend

RossMAN

Grand Nagus
I've been hearing more and more of these stories on the news and I'm sure they don't mention all all the occurences.

What prompted me to post this thread is Lamb who has been missing since October 30th.

The Mollala Police Department has been combing through 30,000 e-mails she would spend several hours per day at the public library in internet chat rooms.

30,000 e-mails??? If I send 10 e-mails a week I consider it a busy week.

I hope she is found.

It bothers me, as a parent, that stuff like that happens....
I'm aware of what my children do at home on the computer....
At school (I'm a teacher), they can't get into chat places...
but, the library allows these kids to go to chat rooms and meet strangers? I'm not saying I'm pro-censorship or something like that, but, kids should NOT be in chatrooms. (unless there was a sure-fire way to keep predators out of chatrooms)

As a parent do you trust your childrens activity on the net or do you monitor it (using software?)

Woa as soon as a saw this thread there was a news flash about it.

Its kinda scary how this sorta stuff happens glab I have a few more years before I even think about having a kid.

i feel no pity for her, she was 16 not 10,

if shes stupid enough to runaway with some chimo so be it, i feel bad for the parents but i cant helkp but blame them for raising such a stupid daughter.

Werd 😀

Lamb, who is always perfectly made up and likes to change clothes at least twice a day, left her backpack at her mom?s house.

She's mentally off - this is not a case of ooh-the-scary-internet-people-kidnapped-a-kid.

I consider sending an email a month a hassle...

Don't think i send out over 10 emails a year...

Little sense here. It won't be 30,000 emails just by her. It'll be every email her friends have/sent their friends etc too, anyone who used the library computers also? They have to look for any little detail that might reveal what happened.

I think it's funny people's perception of chatrooms. Here we all know it's just an internet application running on some box out in the world, but the average person out there thinks if you go into one you will be cursed with bad luck, spam, and viruses. That someone can steal all your personal info and indentity.

Lamb?s parents ended the relationship, grounded her from the Internet and put a lock that required a password on the computer. A couple weeks ago, she was allowed back online, but only while her parents supervised her. The computer also is located in the living room for easier supervision.

The family also visited an alternative school in Bend.

Yeah so let's blame the chatroom on this deal....looks like parent's that put on rules to make themselves more comfortable, rather than thinking of their kid's personal growth and possible sexuality lose again.

?She?s a typical 16-year-old,? her stepmother said. ?And for the most part, she?s a good kid. The only problem we?ve ever had with her is boys. The old boy-crazy thing.?

The girl is 16 years old, not 12....you don't want to deal with your daughter wanting to get stuffed and sweaty someday, but it's going to happen quite a few times over the course of her life.

The friend became especially worried about a 21-year-old Gresham man Lamb met on the Internet. That friend told the girl?s parents about the man.

Yeah those 21 year old's are dangerous, they can buy like beer and stuff.

?As far as we know, she hasn?t had time to establish an online relationship,? her stepmother said.

Lamb, who is always perfectly made up and likes to change clothes at least twice a day, left her backpack at her mom?s house. There also were no recent fights or arguments with her parents or four siblings to explain why she?d run away.

This leads her family to believe that even if Lamb did met someone online, she didn?t intend to leave with him and not return.

hmmm let's see my parents are constantly 'watching' me, they won't think anything is up if I packed my clothes and took them with me one day 🙂

?She didn?t even want to leave,? her stepmother said. ?She wanted to stay there.?

pwn3d!

I hope there was no coercion and the girl is just out having fun and growing up, my ex-wife's sister (her parents would not even let us leave the freaking house half the time saying whatever we needed to do on a date we can do there (with 2 younger brothers running around screaming and bugging us all the while)) pulled this with a criminal of some sort when she was about that age (I think she was 17 maybe she was 16, he was 40 something at the time), they pulled the whole manhunt thing and nothing came up until one day a year at 18 told her parents to stop looking for her.

My ex-wife and I knew exactly why she took off, and also knew the parent's probably forced the decision somewhat....she was also doing all these things just to defy them like piercings and tattoos (the guy was in a motorcycle gang also)...half the stuff my ex-wife did for me or to me was just to spite her parents.
