OK, I just got off the phone with her. And she confirmed what I said (my sister) yes they did sell a few select puppies occassionally for $1500. But that was the highest. I am seriously doubting your story now. Your saying she got this at a mall right??? Where exactly do you live?? If this is true, someone above got it right - I can guarentee that dog was not priced at $6000 b4 your g/f came in the door. Because only your g/f would have been stupid enough to pay that, somehow the owner/salesman saw something in or on her. Mink coat perhaps?

It can be worth it to spend a lot of money on your dog if you really like dogs. I could see spending 3k myself.

However, this would only be from a reputable breeder. This way, you can choose to get a dog that will be smarter, healthier, among other traits.

However, I'd never spend more than $300 from a pet store. Pet stores don't generally have any quality control like a reputable breeder does.

in 1990 i bought my pure breed ADRK (Allgemeiner Deutscher Rottweiler-Klub) Rottweiler for about $1,000. my dog was a daughter of the 1999 Bunderseiger.

There would be no fricken way i would pay 6 grand for a dog. 1,000 was enough but i bought her for a reason. i was interested in Shultzhund training and wanted a dog that came from a long long line of Schultzhund titled ancestors.

Perhaps the dog was actually a couple thousand with papers, training, kennel, dog bed, toys, electric fence, 10 years of Vet meds etc. and she's just puttin' the 6K out there so that when the real price comes out it won't be so bad.

There's a local trainer in town who trains Fire Rescue dogs. Their training rings in at 5-10k a pop; but they're trained to enter burning buildings and search for survivors. The general obedience training from that place runs about a thousand $.
