That's great that you believe you can't have a dedicated relationship without being married. Enjoy those 3 divorces in your future. You have no idea what a relationship is.

HALLELUJAH!!! CAN I GET AN AMEN?!

Then again , me and my friends would prowl campus like sharks on our motorcycles looking for "cantidates"...and I must say. I have had a VERY good time with girls on campus.

she's off to college, UCSB (Santa Barbara). She's a fairly innocent girl

not for long around UCSB & Isla Vista.

mistake to get deeply life-long serious over high school infatuartion

better to let those young relationships be transitory, so people can grow through lots of "relationships."

dot't cling to her, explore interactions with new girls, with a fully open mind.

College and drinking ruined my 3 year relationship with my ex-innocent ex-girlfriend.

Life's a bitch.

I don't know what to think here, am I crazy? I really am looking for serious insight into this from people's experiences. Flame if you must, but I don't think I'm being too irrational, as I really love this girl.

UCSB has a reputation of being a party school.

I remember walking through campus my first year there and walking by another freshman who clearly screamed out "I can't wait to get laid!"

It's very hard to overlook the party mentality on campus and in Isla Vista (small community next to UCSB for those not familiar with the area).

might as well kiss your relationship goodbye.. she doesnt value the last few years..she only wants to party.. and guess what she will break up or force you to break up and cause issues just so she can have it her way.

women are evil!

UCSB is where my ex went, and frankly its called univ. of california for sex and beer. but its also stands for sluts and bitches.. so trust me.. i have seen this pattern before.

dump that bitch and move on.

OP:

OK, I'm gonna do something unusual and be nice. :)

After reading, oh 99% of the posts here, do you have any doubt as to what's going to happen? I know you've got a broken heart and it really sucks. I dated my HS GF for 3.5 years. She dumped me about two weeks after graduation for some guy I'd met once or twice at a party. I was devasted for weeks on end. I got over it.

Here's the "easy way out" for you and you come out the good guy. Wait for the first sign of her partying, not returning your phone calls...other guy answering her cell. Then you tell her:

Look, I think we're both at the point in our lives where we need to see all that life has to offer. What say we part ways while we still love each other and treasure the memories that we had together?

Of course, she will play ignorant: "What are you talking about?" You must remain P.C. and above all, calm. If she REALLY plays stupid, you start reminding her about her not returning your calls, her being drunk off her ass, her being out every night (as opposed to actually studying), etc.

She may yell and scream; this is good b/c YOU are CALM. You give her the "out" and a guarantee she will take it. It may not be a clean kill, but she'll go for it.

And you'll get over it. Remember: The best way to get over someone is to get under someone else.

when will you all learn... "serious" relationships before the age of 27 are destined to fail. there are exceptions of course but most times they're doomed.

let her grow. and if that means the end of your relationship, so be it. find another gf....

I haven't read the thread but I bet this is true. She'll be experimenting with drugs, trying out a DP or some group sex at the very least, and probably stuff you don't even want to know about.

I met my current girlfriend as a senior in highschool while she was a freshman. The relationship developed, and we decided to keep it going. So far we have lived through 3 years 6 hours apart (more than it seems). This year, she's off to college, UCSB (Santa Barbara). She's a fairly innocent girl in some aspects... she has drank twice, both times with me. Each time she was a completely different person to the point where I just wanted to be sober and take care of her. Now she's expressing a big time desire to go out and drink. It's the first night and she's already out and drunk (could tell by the incoherent call). I think it might just be a curiousity thing, but it worries me a bit, mainly because I don't really know that person she becomes while drunk. My freshman year I kept it cool on the partying because she was uncomfortable, but the situation that is developing is that she expects me to just deal with it.

EDIT: to clarify, we spent countless weekends with her up here or me down there, and all the summers together, along with that last year of high school.
