Girl sues MySpace for getting her assaulted
Sue the medium

By INQUIRER newsdesk: Monday 19 June 2006, 23:20

A 14 YEAR-OLD girl who claimed she was sexually assaulted by a man she met on MySpace.com has launched a $30 million lawsuit against its operators.
The lawsuit is critical of the fact Myspace does not verify the age of its users and calls measures in place to stop grizly old geezers grooming sweet young things as "utterly ineffective." The suit alleges Myspace fails in its duty to protect minors.

A lawyer representing the girl's family told reporters, "MySpace is more concerned about making money than protecting children online."

The girl and her family filed the suit against Myspace owner News Corp as well as the 19 year-old accused of fiddling with her.

The girl gave out her mobile phone number to the bloke after she met him on the site. She says that after the pair went out one time to see a film and have a bite to eat, he drove her to a car park and sexually assaulted her.

And that's Myspace's fault. µ

This is outrageous....
This is the girl's and her parent's fault.
Parents need to control their children...

The family smelled a payday and is using their 14 year old child to get it.

What pieces of sh!t.

Newsflash: Don't want to be stalked? DON'T POST YOUR PERSONAL SH1T ON THE INTERNET.

The whole 14/F/XX thing doesn't help either.

lol, whatever happened to the "never give out personal info online"? or even not talking to/meeting strangers?

hopefully they get in front of a good judge and he totally dismisses the case or even better yet, fines them or something for wasting the court's time.

Rule #2: rule #1 is un-enforcable since the search feature doest work.

Interesting, but when I type in Myspace in the search it comes right up. PEBCAK?

Search is broken proof.
Not only did the original thread not come up in a search for myspace... neither did mine.

The girl spent the time talking to the guy online. The parents should have been more aware of the teen's online habits AND since she willingly went on a date with him, Myspace is no longer in the picture. Meh

i dont know about you, but if I was 14, I knew what I'm supposed to do and not do.
all these news about the girls getting assaulted, raped, abducted, whatever by online strangers. yeah, i feel sad for you sure for the tragedy, but please grow a brain first before using the internet.

maybe when you sign up for a new ISP, they should make you check "i am a responsible parent" or "i have a brain" in addition to accepting the TOS.

If you use the search box at the top of Off Topic you get your results, if you use the search PAGE (default settings) you get his results. Clearly the search here sucks.

Only 30 million? Hell why not just go for a cool billion.

Children shouldn't be on myspace in the first place. If this girl's parents weren't complete idiots they could have spent 5 minutes once in a while to monitor her online whereabouts.
