Do you really need chains going through the mountains? Only time I have used them was on our tractor growing up when we plowed snow with it.
 
Interesting. I've never seen tire chains put on before.

By the time they realize that the decent guys worth having around long term only see them as fuck and forget material it is too late. I guess that is why tattoo removal is one of the fastest growing businesses right now.

sometimes chains/cables are required by law on mountain roads and highways.
 
I can recall a time back in the early 80's when the CHP had a checkpoint on the way up to Big Bear, and if you didn't have chains, they made you turn around.

In winter here in Colorado, everything west of I25 can be closed for 100 miles unless you are chained up. 18 wheelers, 4wd included.

Keep a set in both Jeeps just in case needed. No fun to be on bare road and blocked from.getting home.
