This is the part that gets me:

?He put one handcuff on me really tight,? she said Thursday. In the patrol car, ?He just stared at me in the mirror.?

Such a well developed victim mentality, & she's only 9!

That 14 year old PHD candidate has NOTHING on her!

So did we. He was a stray we took in. But ours wasn't evil. But he did pee on the carpet so my mom got rid of him after a while when she wanted new carpet.
 
I can understand arresting her if the state law says an arrest must be made if the complaintant asks and there is evidence. However, why would a 9 yr old girl need to be hand-cuffed? Was she being beligerent or harming herself? Damn cops.

Damn cops? Are you nuts?! Just because she is 9 does not mean she should be treated differently in the eyes of the law. And in fact it probably helped to push it that much further to let her know what she did was very wrong and unlawful. Scare her, maybe she won't grow up to be a criminal.
 
If I was her father, I would expect that she was cuffed. That wouldn't be half as bad as the punishment I would dole out.

She's handcuffed to protect the cops. Even a nine-year old could make life difficult for a cop if she started flailing or hitting the cop. Or, things could get really out of hand... what would happen if the kid was REALLY crazystupid and went for the officer's gun?

EVERY suspect gets handcuffed, and it's a policy that's really hard to argue with.

Also that and most states that I know of has laws that says to be in a car you have to by cuffed. If the officer did not put her in cuffs he would be braeking policy.

I remember the first scared straight ever done. It was in the late 70's and I was a teenager. It was really something back then. Many of the punk kids still had a shred of fear and respect. Nowadays, they have none of that. But they do have a large sense of "look at me wrong and I will sue". and plenty of 'you cannot do anything to me'. Back then most parents were ashamed but today it is more like 'it's someone else's fault my kid is bad'.

In Texas you don't have to be hand-cuffed to be in the back of a cop car. Police often transport people for minor offenses w/o hand-cuffing. IMO stealing a bunny rabbit (worth less than $100 probably) is a minor offense. If the laws in that state require it ok, but if you say it was for the cops protection, shoot yourself now and stop posting b/c you don't have a brain 🙂 Harsh enough?

In Texas police cars have plexi or bars between the back seat and the front... this isn't so in most other states? 😕
