Folks, I said it before and I will say it again.

When/if you are involved in a shooting, DO NOT talk to the cops, just say "I feared for my life and I would like to talk to a lawyer". Period.

That's because Texas is uniquely insane. If he was really concerned about this he could have called the police, just as a person can in Texas.

See a person running away from your car with the stereo and they're already 50 yards down the street? Shoot them in the back:
Texas: Good job!
Everywhere else in the world: You're insane. Prison.

Don't want to be shot? Don't steal from others. How is that insane?

If he was in Texas then no, but where he is, then yep. In Texas guarding your property at night and using lethal force to stop criminal mischief isn't illegal at all. In other places it certainly is.

In Arkansas, he could only use deadly force as self defense in his case to defend property on his property to only stop arson or burglary that he thinks the burglar is going to use force to commit the felony.

If the home-owner had said that the kids had pulled one prank and the second one looked like they were setting up his car to set it on fire with something flammable, he would have been justified in the shooting. But since he opened his mouth with the wrong wording then he is done for. And good riddance.

Oh look. Humble is an expert at Arkansas law now too!

So that is Florida, Texas and Arkansas in case anyone needs a lawyer!

The penalty for stealing a stereo or egging a car is not death. And thinking that it should be is insane. I love my Pioneer touchscreen deck, but it's not worth a human life.

Shit dude, it's not fucking hard to look up the relevant laws and cases for a particular state. As well as reading the applicable proceedings on how the law has been applied/interpreted in the past.

There is this thing called literacy and a brain. Trying using yours for a change. You might understand something for once.

If someone wants to be a criminal in life, you want them to not have to suffer consequences for their actions that may harm others? Gotcha.

Yes that's a hyperbole.

Do you not agree that there should be repercussions for doing a crime? In Texas we don't tell the person that the crime is happening towards that they need to figure out what to do in a given situation. We make it easy. If you feel deadly force is justified to stop a criminal acting in a criminal fashion upon you, then go for it. If not, then don't. So to use your case.

You live here and one day see someone stealing your radio. If you don't feel you need to shoot the person to stop them then don't. Most people, including myself, wouldn't kill someone over something like that. It's called discretion. But what if someone was stealing something you can't replace and you needed it to survive? Would you shoot someone that is stealing your medicine like an asthma inhaler that you need right at that moment to live? In many states if someone was to take an inhaler from a person suffering an asthma attack right on the spot, and the person with the asthma attack pulls out their gun to shoot the person that stole it so they could get it back to live, they would go to jail over it. Do you think that is right? In Texas, the law doesn't try to differentiate between such scenarios. If you feel the need to shoot then shoot. If not then don't. Simple as that.

It hasn't turned Texas into a "wild west" scenario at all. Very rarely do people even here shoot to stop a burglar that is fleeing. Not to say it doesn't happen, but that it is rare for here.

I am going to go out on a limb here and say you've not read most of the "applicable proceedings" on how any of the laws you've remarked about have been applied or interpreted nor the applicable presidents set in the states involved. But, I could be wrong and you could have a legal team that researchers said things while you argue on ATOT about stuff.

I'm a quick reader. When I go on a book binge I go through a 400+ page novel in a night or two after work. I'm the type of person when I get interested in something I devour everything that there is to know on the subject that I can get my hands on until I either get bored with the subject or move on.

I'm the same way, but admittedly not as fast as a reader. Being this type of person can drive my wife crazy sometimes, and I've found can really turn some people off during conversation. Topics go into something I've read about, I brain dump, and people think your a know it all.

Meh, I know I've always been above average in brain capacity. Genius? No. Really high? Sure. When I graduated in the mid 90's I had about 14 AP classes to my name with 4-5's in them. I had 1499 in SAT score without even studying for it. Hell, I didn't really study that hard for most shit because I picked things up that quick. I had a full ride scholarship to a few really nice schools without even trying. I did about 20+ ish CLEP and DANTES tests without studying for a single one and passed them all with ma or near max scores. In my first college though, I got screwed over by a theology dean, who I later found out was eventually fired for the shit he pulled on me that he did on other students, and I ended up in the military because of no real prospects after losing my scholarship because of that dipshit.

Today though, people in my office call me Google Persona. I used to also be called Cliff Clavin in past jobs. That is because most people can usually ask me about most topics before looking it up on the internet, and I usually already have some knowledge about it. If I don't know it I usually know where to find it or figure it out what they can't find on the internet.

I try not to do the brain dump thing though in real life. It turns some people off as you've noticed.

I remember when I was a kid, my house got egged multiple times, graffiti, car scratched. At the time I would of loved to of killed who ever did it, I can see where the rage comes from. Acting on it, I don't know, its sad that this happened but I mean there are consequences to everything.
