Gimme a good modern(ish) linear game please

I'm looking for something that feels super epic and doesn't have the go anywhere, do anything feel to it.

I want to be handheld through a gripping adventure that plays out like reading Lord of the Rings.

Any suggestions?

I have played Mass effect 2. I have Mass effect 1 but I lost interest as soon as I had to drive the Moon buggy thingie (Makko?)

Dragon Age. I have always associated that with a point and click type rpg. I may be totally wrong but never even looked into it

Mass Effect 2 did away with the buggy. They have a "Mining" minigame, but I don't think you even have to do much (or any) to complete the game.

Jade Emipre might be a good 'un.

I would agree with COD if you like shooters.

KOTOR is one of the most epic RPGs I have played and is pretty linear. All you have to do is choose light side or dark side. The graphics are a bit dated by now, but it stands up to any modern RPG in my opinion otherwise. It is still probably my favorite game of all.

Thats a shame because from your description of what you want, something linear and epic mass effect fits that perfectly.

Skyrim is epic but its not linear, definitely fun though and more lord of the ringsy than mass effect.

From what you've said, Witcher 2 or Dragon Age: Origins goty.

DAO has a group of up to four that you manage, with your choice of a bunch of different character types and personal backstories. Witcher 2 is more focused on the one guy, with background set.

PS. I hated the Mako too....

Hmm...Singularity is very linear FPS. Pretty good. Epic would be personally subjective. What about the Bioshock/Bioshock2 games? They are on sale today on Steam for $5

Deus Ex Human Revolution? There is a small exploration element, but you dont need to explore, you can just follow the Main Quest markers and ignore the Side Quest ones as well.

Metro 2033 or Singularity, if you're looking for a good shooter. The Witcher 2 for an RPG (but there's still an element of exploration and open-endedness in there; not many RPGs are truly linear).
