Unimog:

9' 7" Tall three feet higher than the tallest SUV
12,500lbs. 2X a Chevy Suburban
20' Long. More than a foot longer than the Ford Excursion.
Nearly 2 feet wider than the average car.
10mpg Diesel.
Front seat 6 feet high is reached by a 3 step ladder.

Daimler will be selling this thing in October for $84k and hopes to sell 1,000 per year at first.

"Even in Scottsdale, Arizona moms will want to take it to the grocery store. It's a head turning vehicle."

WTH do we need these things on the road just to go grocery shopping?

This is insane.

Forgot to mention it was a front page story in the business section of today's NY Times.

And that picture of sciensdiet's Unimog is different that the one in the Times. That one is muuuuuch smaller.

LOL. My neighbor will now have to trade in his Hummer. Why doesnt Diamler just repackage one of their 18 wheelers as an SUV? I'd like to see a soccer mom buying one of those to haul groceries.

Hey, if people want to drive these then that's their right. What right do you have to prevent soccer moms from driving what they want? America is a car-based culture. We want to drive whatever the hell the manufacturers say we want. So back off. You're all just jealous.

Also, if I see anymore Excursions I'm moving off planet.

lines like "That parking lot looks empty, lets park there" spring to mind

Its not a good sign when a civilian revolt has bigger transports than the military ;)

You should have to have a truck driving license to drive that bohemoth! How ridiculous can you get?!? Me thinks the end is near for the "bigger is better" SUV craze.

Can you imagine the poor chump in a civic or metro who gets in an accident with it? That is just a serious hazard.

I am completely against SUV's especially in a big city like here in Los Angeles, EVERYWHERE YOU GO, there is a monster right behind you, splitting pollution and wasting gas, and for what? for what damn reasons?! I can understand mountain trips, but not here in Los Angeles, WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
