traded in my 2009 Yamaha FZ6R for a 2012 Kawasaki Ninja 1000 ABS (streebike, not racebike)

so. much. power. so. much. torque :awe::awe::awe::awe:

pulls from any gear at any rpm. the only sad part is that you can get to 70mph in 1st gear...not much opportunity to click through the gears :p

power delivery is very linear and very smooth. granted i've stayed under 8k rpm (redline starts at 11k), but it certainly hasn't just jumped out from under me (but yes i did lift the front wheel off the ground a little...and promptly closed the throttle :p)

hopefully the last streetbike i ever need to buy. it's comfortable, powerful, and still handles great. i think it's more responsive than my 6R

That is a nice looking bike. What is the difference between street and race bike?

ninja 1000 = streetbike - neutral/standard seating position, engine tuned for low/mid-range power and torque, designed with comfort in mind

ZX10-R = racebike - agressive, race-oriented seating, basically a production racebike, tuned for extreme power production, has traction control systems, designed to minimize weight and maximize performance (about 70lbs lighter than the Ninja 1000, produces 40-50 more peak horsepower)

Ah, I see. Thanks for putting it into plain terms.

Smart decision. The perfect street bike. I was thinking about getting one back when they came out. I'm a Kawasaki guy at heart. I watched a video of the ninja 1000 and my heart dropped when I heard it start. Very distinctive sound Kawasaki has from the starter to the engine noise. Very soothing. Seems very odd that you have ridden the street/race bikes but have never ridden a full on race bike. Most guys that ride the street oriented bikes like the ninja1000 use to ride SS then got older so they need the upright position.

I have it's little sister, a 650r, with a bunch of mods, including Givi hard cases. I am doing a long tour next month, from NJ, to the Dragon, the Bluer Ridge Mountains, and then to Savannah. The other guys are riding 1 Tiger 1050, and an FZ6, so it'll be interesting to see how my little beast does.

Nice bike though, and definitely the bike I would upgrade to if I decide I want something smoother and more relaxing for longer rides.

I had no idea there was a difference. I thought pretty much every liter bike was a race bike.

Sounds good.
I just washed/waxed my Concours and it'll be dusty tomorrow. :(

Looks good! I sat on one a while back, pretty comfortable and nice looking.

Going to do any mods to it? At least get rid of that large bulky wreck of an exhaust....

love the bike but the illusion of it being comfortable? have the new seats become so much better? i could see that being good for 2-3 hours but after that i forsee numbness, either way KILLER bike!

It doesn't look comfortable at all to me. But I am 54 and have a weenie back. It's why I ride the style of bike I do. I have bar risers on it to bring the bars up.

OOPS, wrong pic. This is my bike.

I am a sportbike guy myself, ride a gsxr600...But I could see myself riding a bike like that once I am a bit older but I sitll want the sportbike look and performance.

I just can't see myself being a HD guy...I hate how they form cliques like high school teen agers.

Good choice! I've always liked that model; lot of the advantages of a ZX-10R without the downsides.
