My buddy just purchased a TrendNet TEW-633GR N Wireless Router that has 10/100/1000 capabilities. His computer only has an Intel 10/100/1000 on-board NIC and he said that some of his internet applications will freeze with this new router. He also said that the light on the router is "orange" which means it isn't running at 1000. He had a Linksys 10/100 wired router before hand that worked.

So the laptop works great and the desktop is having issues. I am going to go over there later today and wanted to know if there is anything I should try or any suggestions.

Make sure his NIC is set for "Auto", rather than specific Speed and Duplexing settings.

In the network devices, properties of local area connection, configure on device, advanced it had speed port set to "auto negotiate"

Make sure you're using store bought Cat5e cables. Intel does a rudimentary cable check. No homemade cables.
