Gigantour 2006

Anyone going to Gigantour this year? I'm leaving in about half an hour to the Oakland show today. For those of you who don't know, this is a tour that Megadeth (Mustaine mostly) started putting on. This is the 2nd year for this tour and it features Megadeth, Lamb of God, Arch Enemy, Opeth, Overkill, and a few other bands.

I want to go but they are sold out of GA tickets to Toronto and I don't want to sit in a damn seat at a metal show

Sorry. I can't take his review seriously after reading his comments about Opeth.
He's right though. Opeth is a very nitch sound of extreme tech metal, loved by metal elitests around the world (read: corporaterecreation, aka platypus 😀) Beyond their ability to shred by the numbers they arn't impressive as a show.

Yeah, Opeth has the same type of followers as Dream Theater. Snobby bastards. I like Opeth somewhat, but don't like to be associated with the general crowd of Opeth fans.

I would imagine that Opeth would indeed suck live. They are a studio band, nothing more. I would think that a lot of the technical stuff they do would just be muddied and lost in the crappy arena sound systems. That and they could do like 4 songs in a set 🙂

I'd really like to see Lamb of God live though. I would think they would put on a decent show.

I wouldn't consider myself to be a snobby bastard, but I'd much rather be around the Opeth crowd than the emo/goth or nu-metal crowds.

I've seen them twice and they put on an awesome show. Sure, they don't jump around or have pyrotechnics, but each show kicked ass.
