Gigabyte's Brand New 965 Board Review on Vr-zone

Wonder why the performance is weaker than that of ASUS? This board looks amazing. A few highlights:

* 12-Phase VRM - very small v-core fluctuation
* 8 SATA + 2 IDE, and 2 eSATA brackets supporting total 4 (!!) eSATA HDDs
- I've beein using both eSATA ports on A8N32, and the speed difference (vs USB/Firewire) is unbelievable.
* All copper heatpipe cooling 4 copper heatsinks, with backside copper heatspreader
* 2 x PEGs for possible SLI/CF hack
* 10 x USB ports & 3 x Firewire ports
* Power connectors aligned toward the edge of board - no messy cabling
* All aluminum, organic electrolyte caps (!)

etc.. Check it out. This board seems to be a rock. When are 965 boards supposed to ship?

it is a pretty board and i would like one.

but i'm cautious about the "8-phase, 12 phase" etc. competition that
the board makers have going on.

what matters is voltage stability under changing load conditions.

you got a nice board, the A8N32.

I will say when I do decide to buy a mobo for conroe, its going to be btween this one, and those guys that make them Lanparty boards.....oh yeah.....DFI!

I'm not sure why you say it's weaker than the ASUS board? It won just as many, if not more, benchmarks than the ASUS motherboard.

I'm guessing a BIOS update at a later time? I really dont know.....maybe hacked SLI drivers? (as ive read from one of the reviews abotu this board)

Hey Gary, just wanted to know if you or anyone else in Anandtech will be doing a review on the Gigabyte GA-965P-DQ6 board w/OC results and such?

Silly question: Why would they include the SLI bridge if the 965 chipset doesn't support SLI?

gigabyte always does that... like their 975X G1 turbo thing, they include SLI chip...

Noob question here: Will my ATX 2.0 powersupply be compatible with this board?
It has the 24 pin + 4 connections. From the pictures of the board on VR-Zone it looks like the extra power connector is 8 pins with 4 capped off. Is this so both ATX 2.0 and ATX 2.2 powersupplies can be used?

Yes, short review next week, full review the week after. Overclock will include stock cooler, Tuniq 120, and maybe water if we decide on a common unit in time.
