Hello Everyone! It's a been a minute since I last posted...

I recently put together a new rig to replace my aging Q6600, yeah its been awhile... ;-) The build includes a Gigabyte z790 UD AC, I9 439K CPU, Pro 980 M2 for the main boot device and a MSI 4070 graphics card. The OS is Windows 11 pro. Oh and a seatronics 650 watt PSU. Overall the build went fine but when I went to install my old Kingston SSD on the SATA bus along with a WD SATA drive the rig wouldn't boot. If I tried with just one drive it would boot most of the time. Sadly my diagnostic skills have degraded from lack of practice but for the life of me can't find a reason why it's doing this. Google hasn't provided any easy answers either. I have updated the drivers and only have one ACPI error unaccounted for...

Any suggestions???

Thanks in advance,

Ed

Disable RST after the uefi upgrade?
Tech!!! I did disable RST and then reset the BIOS to defaults.... The SATA bus now see both drives without issues...! Now I plan to retest my previous changes to see what broke it to begin with! More later!

Thank you,

Ed

Congrats on the new rig 🚀 When it comes to your SATA drive issue, it could be a compatibility problem or just a loose connection. Double-check the connections, make sure SATA ports are enabled in BIOS, update BIOS and drivers, test the drives individually, and try different SATA ports44
Kiwi,

Pretty much what I've done. Found one loose connection but it didn't correct the problem. I also discovered that I hadn't reinstalled the front cover correctly once and that prevented the push button from engaging the momentary switch correctly... :)
In the end I've reset the BIOS to defaults and the SATA bus is now happy and sees both drives and boots correctly. I'm retesting BIOS changes now to see if I can determine the previous change that broke it in the first place..

Thanks for the suggestions!

Ed,

Well, It seems like you've been through quite the troubleshooting adventure there. Sometimes those pesky changes can really throw things off.

Cheers
James
James it's certainly been fun. I've been out of the loop for a bit so kind of a relearning experience! Oh and I have rediscovered my dislike of package driver packages.... Apparently I've forgotten you really need to remember to beware of stuff being installed that you don't want... Amateur's mistake i know....

Oh and to resolve the SATA drive issue was a simple update for the 790 chipset drivers from Intel. Now the box runs XMP and Tweaked CPU stable and fast!

Now if I could resolve why I can see my Microphone from my Logitech ProX headset but can't get it to work I would be set! LOL

Thanks again,

Ed
