I guess your MC does things a bit differently. The one near me, in accordance with what it says online as well, they only allow exchanges to the same model and only if defective.

Hard to say. Definitely an odd problem. Id bet its some bios issue, I doubt it has actual hardware issues. All mobos seem to have some quirky issue noted by someone, its stange. Is this issue only on gigabyte and only this specific model? I have no idea.

This is microcenters return policy as stated on the web page. If you read all of it it does seem somewhat thorough. I snipped the software one just to make a point. The exchange on MB and CPU's is vague and doesn't state that it is identical product such as in the example for software.

" Non-returnable and non-refundable items
Special buy or clearance items are not returnable unless otherwise indicated on the label attached to the product. Service parts, motherboards and processors may only be exchanged, and only if defective, within 30 days of purchase if in "like-new" condition. Labor, installation services and any shipping charges are non-refundable. "

" Opened software, DVDs, CDs and console games in "like-new" condition may only be exchanged for the identical product. The exchanges must be made within 30 days of purchase. "

I would think that if you have a defective MB you'd be able to exchange it for another currently in stock MB. If you purchase a MB and on day 28 it goes belly up. You go to the store on day 29 and they don't have it. They check and say we have more coming next week. What then? You gotta rma to the manufacturer? They would exchange it without issue I'd think.

Must have different policies then in different areas. Microcenter near me(over an hour away in Orange/Tustin CA) is 30 days and they most definitely do not allow returns or exchanges on mobos and processors unless its for the identical model/type and ONLY if defective. How do I know this for certain, because I just did a return a week ago to them. I had some odd blue screens I didnt want to deal with fixing(I dont think the mobo was actually faulty) on the Z68X-UD3H-B3, so I went and swapped for a brand new cpu and mobo. I think I want an asus LX or LE instead and they wouldnt let me change mobos or anything, I asked.

I almost never shop at MC since they are so far away, but I was kind of disappointed since they are like the first store ive been to that does not allow returns on motherboards of cpu's. I kinda wish I would have purchased elsewhere now.

Fallengod---

I returned my motherboard last night just fine and replaced it with a new one of the same model since they don't have the Asus P8z68v that I really want. You need to ask them when purchasing your product to SEAL the box....as long as you come back within 30 days and their 'official' tape seal is still on you will have no problem returning it for a refund or buying another board. I go to the EXACT same MC (also an hour away). So just a heads up for future reference. You need to make sure you tell them you want the box sealed so you could technically return it within 30 days....if the seal is broken all you can do is exchange it with the exact same board.

Kenmitch is completely correct. If you come back with a defected board and they don't have your model they will replace it with ANY other board you might want to buy. Whether it is cheaper or more expensive. Obviously you have to pay the price difference....at least I believe you would.

Kenmitch--you are completely correct. I don't know why I keep second guessing my choices. (first time builder with the jitters I suppose). I am going to buy my last piece today on newegg. A Corsair TX 650W PSU for $65 after rebate...hopefully this will be powerful and reliable enough for my new system....

Fair enough. I never shop at MC so..., thanks for the info on having them seal the box. I did not know that. Seems fairly stupid someone would have to ASK for that but hey, this is microcenter.

Also, the corsair TX 650V2 is what I own. $65AR is a good price, thats about what I paid for mine. You rarely find corsair PSU's under $60. Corsair PSU's are top quality..... I dont know what youre planning to do with your system but unless youre planning on running severely overclocked CPU with 2 super high end video cards in SLI/Crossfire, it should be plenty of power. Me, I never run SLI and am perfectly fine with a single video card. For this, 650 watts of corsair power is more than sufficient.

I also go to the same one. It's about an hour each way for me as long as I don't hit any traffic. Just gotta time it for a early-mid day run and pray for no accidents :)

I was just there on Friday to pick up a MB/CPU combo. Needed a temp MB so I can play around while I rma my MB in sig to Asus. Has a shutdown issue as it won't stay powered off unless I flip the power supply switch.

Wound up picking up the ASRock P67 Ext4 Gen3 and a 2500k. Nice looking board but the bios is primitive compared to the Asus. My 2700k overclocks the same on the board which is nice to know. The 2500k is sealed still for now. Not sure if I'm gonna sell it off sealed or try it out once my board comes back from Asus....Hmm
