Gigabyte X58A-UD3R and triple channel ?

Hey all, just picked up this board and was looking at the "supported memory" list on their website. For a lot of the various supported memory manufacturers, they list it as "6 pieces" under the triple channel column.

Sorry for the beginner question...but I thought all you needed for triple channel were a minimum of three memory modules. Am I just not reading that list correctly? Anybody with this board that knows for sure? Thanks!
 
You only need three sticks in slots 1, 3 and 5 (the white ones). Look at page 16 of the manual.
