Gigabyte x58 Extreme

I just built my new rig using the Gigabyte MOBO, and have decided to get a second gtx 280 for SLI.

However, in doing so I lose the only available PCI slot for my SB X-Fi extreme gamer with the new card.

I am willing to buy a pci express card soundcard, but with this MOBO, the only available slot is where the northbridge cooler goes (above the first PCI Express slot):

Since this is a tri-SLI MOBO, am I able to use the following PCI Express soundcard in the third slot (x16), or does it have to be used in the x1/x4 slot?:

In the bigger x16 slot? The card looks like it has a much smaller connector than the mobo.

It will work in a 16x slot just fine.

The cooler does nothing for the temps, so i would just lose it. Essentialy it is all show and cost an extra $30 for it:Q
