Gigabyte VT600 not posting with AMD Barton 2500

System specs:

Gigabyte GA-VT600
AMD Barton 2500
512MB Micron PC2700 RAM
ASUS GeForceFX 5200
Sparkle 300W PSU

BIOS revision: F6

This system will NOT post with a Barton 2500, but WILL with a Thoroughbred 2600. The problem is definitely not DOA hardware, because every component has been switched out (and of course works with the 2600).

At this point I suspect the problem to be related to the motherboard not being able to properly determine the cpu/ram timings, and puking as a result. Any advice is MUCH appreciated.

Are you trying to post with the default FSB speed? I would try a different ram slot and no pci/agp cards to see if you can get the barton to post. I have the same board I think and it works fine with the barton. I am using the most current bios but it's only f3. I have the k7vt600 1394 and it's pretty sweet.
