If money is no object, which of these two motherboards is best for overclocking a Q6600?

GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L or DFI LP UT P35 T2R?

I hope the answer is GA-P35-DS3L as I just bought a bunch of them from Newegg to precisely do as you inquire (overlock Q6600).

I do not know the answer to your question though, but I will watch your thread to see if anyone else chimes in.

if money (& time to dial it in) is no object then the DFI.
It's also got a wider feature set.

In terms of vfm the Gigabyte though as it's <half the price & will get considerably more than half the fsb

My DS3L is running great for me, but I've heard good things about the DFI boards. As DerwenArtos said, there are cheaper DFI options too. Honestly I don't think you'd go wrong with either one.

If money is no object, you might as well get a QX9650 instead of that Q6600. It will clock up a fair bit higher on either board.

I'm in basically the same boat. Building a new PC with a Q6600 that I plan to OC to 3GHz. Trying to decide between a DFI that Derwen recommended, and a couple of different Gigabyte options.

DFI BLOOD IRON P35-T2RL
GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3P Rev 2.0
GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3R

Then I come to this thread and read about the DS3L. DS3R, DS3P, DS3L. P35, P35C. Rev 2.0s. Which Gigabyte to go with? So confusing. =(

Are they all suited for OC'ing? I just want DDR2, a few SATA hookups, PCI-E, raid functionality, USB 2.0 ports, and good onboard audio as I don't plan to buy a soundcard. All these mobos seem to meet/exceed those needs, but I don't know how their audio compares.

EDIT: I see the P35C versions are combo boards for DDR2/3. Hmm, that's an interesting prospect for future-proofing even I don't have a history of upgrading components. I typically build as moderately high-end system that I keep for about 5 years, the just build a whole new one.

Don't bother with the P35C.

As far as choosing between the DS3L, DS3R, or DS3P, it's a matter of which options you need. If you're not going to use onboard RAID or firewire, don't pay for them. Get the DS3L. If you are, then get the DS3R. I believe the DS3P has a second PCI-e x16 slot if you need that, as well as improved cooling. (But the DS3L's cooling is fine unless you're going for very extreme overclocks.)

They're all suited for overclocking. Right now I have an E4500 that's running at 2.9GHz. It could run even faster, but I don't need it to, and at that speed I can run it below the stock voltage.
