Gigabyte VRXP mobo problems with ATI 8500LE

I recently built a new computer with a Gigabyte VRXP motherboard, AMD XP 1600+ CPU, solid cooling, and video card ATI 8500LE. The problem i'm having is that the computer is constantly either crashing, freezing or restarting itself without any interference sometimes by human intervention. I'm running Windows XP Professional and am wondering if there is a known cause for these symptoms. Please help.
