Gigabyte Universal Socket 370 Problems GA-6OXT

I have used the ASUS TUSL2-C boards without any problems so far, awesome boards. I decided to go with the Gigabyte since I wanted to save $30. Just a cheap upgrade for my mom. I had problems with the board, ended up having to RMA it. Got the RMA replacement, same problem, No POST. Gear used:

*Sparkle 300 watt Power supply (works fine w/ old Abit BE6)
*Celeron 366mhz w/ stock heatsync/fan/thermal pad. (used a global win on this on the be6, never used before hsf).
*Generic PC100 128meg stick
*Old ATI 8 meg PCI card

I thought maybe it could be the ram or vid card, but those parts worked on the be6. The board refused to show anything on the screen, not even a POST. I RMA'd the board, got a 'replacement' and still had the exact same problems, no post. Bought new vid/ram and tried a few more parts on the replacement:

*Abit Geforce2mx w/ video out (AGP)
*Corsair value PC133 128meg stick
*Generic 250 watt power supply (never used before (came free with a cheap case), tried it on BE6 first, worked there)

Basically I spent a few hours trying things each time, now that this is the 2nd gigabyte, I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong here, or if there was just a bad batch of these boards?

Any tips appreciated.

I dont have any P3s in the shop at the moment (entirely P4/XPs this year), but maybe that would fix it? Anyone with success using this board using a normal Celeron, please post. 🙂

well I got my 3rd Gigabyte (2nd RMA), still the same problem. This time, I didn't mount it in teh case, but kept it on it's static bag and was extremely careful. No POST. I took all the componants (2 cpus, 2 different sticks of ram (one corsair pc133), 2 video cards (one agp, one pci), and 2 power supplies (one sparkle) and all combinations work on the old Abit BE6. I have emailed gigabyte support.

Quite frusterating. Hopefully it is something stupid.

Anyone with this board actually have it working? Please post here. Particularly which cpus you're using. All I have to test are 3 different Celeron 366s (which all work perfectly on the BE6, and all hit 550mhz too).

From the website:

<< Universal socket 370 supports Intel® FC-PGA/FC-PGA2 Pentium®III (CopperMine / Tualatin) or other compatible processors >>

Note that it doesn't say PPGA

I have a GA6OXET-C. The manual for it says the same. It also states: "Can't support processor with Vcore over 1.8V." Does your manual say the same?

I was beginning to suspect the board didn't support the socket 370 celeron 366s, as it would show power on the LED near the ram. So I guess Universal means, everything but celerons. Oh well 1A Ghz @133mhz FSB here I come. 🙁
