Just built new system using Gigabyte GA-EX58 UD5, Intel 920 processor, 6gigs of Patriot 1600Mhz tri-channel ram, Seagate 500gig sata hard drive, BFG GTX-260 video card. The system seems to work good overall except when I manually set ram timing to 1600Mhz. Machine then double starts when I first turn on the power. By this I mean that it starts up for about 2 or 3 seconds and then shuts off for about 5 seconds and then comes back on. Gigabyte tech support says this is normal on X-58 chip. I can't imagine that this is normal but this is only my fourth build so I can't say that I am very experienced and this is a new chipset. When ram is set to default settings which is 1066 in this case, I does not double start. Has anyone else had this problem or heard of this problem with this board?

Getting the same with my P35 GA mobo. My friend has the same on a P45 ASUS. I looked around and everybody seems to say it's normal... Started with P35s afaik.

My UD3P does the same thing when I change something in the BIOS that relates to either the CPU or Memory.

My Asus P5Q and P5B have done that since day 1. There's nothing wrong. I assume it's some sort of power on test prior to POST-ing
