Looking to replace my current ancient Gateway LT 3103U in the very near future & to me it looks like the Gigabyte U2442F has the most bang for buck at $1,149.99.

  • Intel Core i7 3537U(2.00GHz)
  • 8GB Memory 128GB SSD
  • NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M
  • 1600 x 900
  • Windows 8
This UB also has an expansion slot for a 2nd HD to which I already have a spare in the garage.

Curious what other thoughts people have about this UB or perhaps a competitor.

Edit: After doing some more research, it looks like I may go with the Gigabyte P34G

Here is a question for those that already own the Y510P. I am now also considering the Y510P but I have 1 issue with it so far. The 5400 RPM drive. That is perfectly fine for storage but I want a larger SSD.

Can the 8 GB SSHD be removed to install a larger SSD, or is there room to install a SSD while keeping the HDD?

By Y510P if you mean the Lenovo Ideapad then yes according to this page on their site it sure does ~

Perhaps I am missing it. I did the customize yesterday & it would only allow for software. If you were referring to the ultrabay then that wouldn't work for me, I would want the 750 sli a real (128 or up) SSD & the HDD. Willing to buy the aftermarket SSD but I have to know there is room for it with the HDD.

That option is present on the customization page, it should be visible to you as well ~

Ah! Yes I see that, however I am thinking about ordering from newegg, 1 so I don't pay Taxes, & 2 this is also a business purchase as well as I have an account with newegg for zero interest for 12 months. On there site the system has a SSHD 8 gigs for cache I believe & the rest is 5400 rpm.

I believe the 8 gigs memory is a single stick & I would also be curious if the 16 gig memory is dual or single stick.

I can't say whether it'll be cheaper from newegg or not, since I'm not from the states, but if you have a 12 month zero interest account with'em then it'll probably be a better choice getting it from newegg.

It isn't a given that it'll be a single RAM module since their product page shows it could well be 2x4GB ~

Also just an FYI the storage might be this particular SSHD from seagate ~

http://www.seagate.com/internal-hard-drives/solid-state-hybrid

which means it occupies just the HDD bay & there may still be enough room in the chassis for a separate SSD, since the Lenovo site mentions it as an optional purchase.

edit -

Now that I think about it you don't necessarily need a separate SSD solution since the hybrid drive should function just as well, unless of course you want an SSD as a boot drive.

The 8GB config is indeed 2x4GB as I suspected ~
