Gigabyte SINXP1394 Problems

I don't even know where to start. I've tried 4 different sets of DDR modules in this mobo with no satisfactory results (Thank you Fry's for taking them back each and every time). Only one set would even run - the Mushkin 400Mhz modules at $159/ea, and they would only run at 266 Mhz! GigaByte has a list of "supported modules" that nobody has in stock. I'm sure that the Anandtech test system was put together by Newegg with cherrypicked parts. So does anyone out there have any real experiance with this mobo? If so what memory are you using? And what is your system stability like?

I love the features on this mobo, and would really like to see it run - but not if I have to pay for DDR3200 and then run it at DDR2200 speeds.

Thanks for any help.

The RAM that worked the best when I was running an SINXP in dual channel was 2 256MB sticks of Kingston HyperX 3500.

EDIT: Here is the thread..

Being much less ambitious than Technonut, I'm using two 512 Mb PC2700 from Crucial that came up automatically at 333 Mhz and has run just fine. I haven't seen any posts with similar problems to yours. Sounds like something is not right. Have you checked your power supply voltages? Good luck!

I am using Corsair XMS 3500C2 Platinum ((2) 512mb sticks) and I also used the Corsair XMS TwinX 3200LLPT 1gb kit with no problems with this motherboard. What are your system specs? Have you manually pulled up the ALT-F1 memory tweek section in the bios? If not, it could that the SPD isn't programmed correctly on your modules? Give us some more specs, and what you have tried...

Here are my system specs:

P4 2.40b
GigaByte SINXP1394
GeForce4 4600 (Visiontek)
Enermax 430W PS.
2X IBM Deskstar 40G in RAID 1 config.
1X IBM Deskstar 40G as drive 0
TDK 52X CDR

My first try:
Patriot DDR3200 1Gb kit (2 512 modules).
System would post but not run (hang) before I could even get any bios settings saved.

My second try:
Returned Mobo for new one (first was opened box).
Returned memory, Purchased Muskin DDR3200 1Gb kit.
It runs at DDR400! Bios settings at low performance defualt.
The operating system loads, but two boots, and three blue screens later it is so currupted as to be worthless. I set the memory speed to 333, and load the operating system again. Now I have a stable system, But I'm pissed off that I spent $$$ on expensive memory only to run at a slower speed. So...

My third try:
Returned Expensive Mushkin Memory for Patriot DDR2700 1Gb kit.
System runs at 266. But will not even post at 333. I reset the Bios, and still it will not post!
At his point I'm tired of the whole thing. I've returned all of the parts to fry's.

Was I being Naive to think that I could simply run a mobo with memory at its rated speed and default settings?

I would love to find a mobo with all of the features of the SINXP1394, that actually works - or know what's going on with this one and get it to work.

Thanks for any advice.

Power supply is fine. First thing I checked.
I'm begining to suspect it's a combination of a picky mobo and crappy memory from Fry's. I would have thought that the Mushkin memory would have worked though.
