It is generally a bad idea to crossfire 2 slow cards when you can just buy a faster single one

Really, rather than spend another $100 on that card to crossfire it, you would be much better served by selling it and buying a 960 or a 4GB 380.

It would probably be close to the same out of pocket, and the 380 would be faster than 360CF even if CF had perfect scaling (which it doesn't) or even worked most of the time (it also doesn't).

If he's going to sell his card he should just buy a used card and get further value... No point buying a new card when in a couple of months Polaris and pascal drop.

In fact, he should probably just hold onto his card, sell it later and get one of those new cards and save money in the meantime.

Perhaps. Used 4GB 960s still go for around what that 4GB 380 does though, and the 380 prices used are inflated by coin mining.
Sold Used 4GB 380s on eBay
Most are sellin over the $175AR price in the linked deal. Even if you got a good deal, I think I'd take a $175 new 380 with a warranty and a free copy of Ashes vs a used one that might have been run 24/7 for the last 6 months for $150.
