doing an install and would not post with 4 sticks of 1 gig pc6400 ddr2 in, had to reduce to one stick to boot.

mobo = Gigabyte P35-DS3L
e6750, 8800gts

gigabyte's site says this memory is compatible with this board and that it supports it

after i get an OS installed and the PC is formatted will i be able to stick all 4 sticks in with no problem, is there a setting or voltage i need to change to get all 4 sticks of this memory working, or will this memory never work for some reason?

I don't have this board. However, Gigabyte's BIOS is not very user-friendly. You have no idea what is the actual value of default Vdimm because the voltage is not shown. I believe this vendor violates JEDEC standard of 1.8Vdimm to facilitate POSTING with POS OCZ RAMs (nominally rated at 2.0-2.1V). Default voltage is probably set at 2.1V. This may make life simple for noobs but may also damage RAMs if you start bumping up Vdimm.

The RAM timing is located under another sub-menu. It has been a while since I use a Gigabyte board.

Default DDR2 voltage on the GA-P35-DS3L is 1.8v so you have to set DDR2 OverVoltage Control to +.4v in bios if your RAM is rated 2.2v.

The Ballistix memory needs 2.2V according to the crucial site

XBoxLPU thank you very much for the info...

upped Vdimm from 1.8v to 2.2v and now will not post

anyone ideas on troubleshooting what the problem could be?

Next step for me will be updating the boards BIOS i think

after looking through the Gigabyte bios i can't find a setting for command rate, so i'm not sure how to set it

i also don't know what you refer to with driving strength, sorry

anyone with a Ds3l know where i can find these settings?

He is probably thinking AMD systems.

Try setting the memory timings manually at relaxed timings - something like 800 speed
(I run at 412FSB (X 2 = 824)
If 4 4 4 12 does not work try 5 5 5 18
The other settings I use are 4 4 6 42 4 7 Auto in that order +.02 for voltage
Rememebr 4 RAM sticks are not eay for the board to play with unless if they are similar sticks (do not mix and match)

on gigabyte boards the extra tweaks and settings for overclocking are hidden by default, when in bios main screen press ctrl + F1 key to open those settings

yeah the default was set at 5 5 5 18, i tried upping the voltage from 1.8 to 2.2 then to 2.0, no help, i also tried making the timings what they should be 4 4 4 12 2.2v and that was also no good, i sent an e-mail to gigabyte and i'm going to also update the bios see if that has any effect

any other troubleshooting tips or suggestions are appreciated greatly

running 2 sticks in single channel mode (sigh) and everything seems stable

just updated the bios and hoping to try 2 gig in dual channel mode and see if i can post and boot, timings are very relaxed 5-5-5-18

really hoping i can at least use 2 gig, i'd like to be able to use all 4 gig (even if 32bit xp can't address all 4 gig and i'm actually going to have ~3.5 gig usable i think)
