I don't have a floppy and would like to update the BIOS on my DS4 rev2. I've heard of issues when flasking in the OS but never had a problem doing so with my evga 680i.

Anyone have first hand experience?

If you're in a pinch, I guess you could flash from within Windows. However, under Windows there are just too many things which could go wrong.

Q-Flash is by far the best way to flash. You don't even need a floppy, btw... you can use an USB flash drive also.

I did not know this and I looked through the manual.
Do I need the .bin file itself? I downloaded the newest bios but it's an .exe file. Unless I have to just run it and it will extract the .bin.

Yes, you need to extract the bin file. The exe is just a selfextractor. You can extract the file to the root dir of any hard disk that uses FAT32 and access it directly from there with Q-Flash. I've also used Gigabyte's Facewizard without any issues ever but most people favorite Q-Flash.

I have used @bios many times - both to flash to newer versions of available bios, and then to flash back to my original setups and bios - and without incident. It's fast, and seems pretty bulletproof. Save your current bios setup first (which the program encourages you to do) and then "tell" it to go get the latest bios for your board and flash it, all from your desktop.

I have used Q-Flash with USB flashdrive several times. Perfect.
I have also used @Bios many many times with the multiple Gigabyte mobos I have owned over the years. Perfect. Just don't overclock while doing it is a good safe rule to follow. Same goes for using Q-Flash.

Now if only we could get Gates and company to get rid of Windows XP install using F6 RAID by floppy!
