im trying to make a working computer from this

p4 2.53 533mhz front side bus
asus p4s8x mobo
ati radeon 9700 pro (BROKEN)
1gb ddr 1 333mhz

i want to jump in the pci express so im planning a two step upgrade cause i dont have the money to get a complete decent set up at once

first
ill keep cpu and ram and add
mobo -> an asus one not many to choose on retailers as it has to be for socket 478 and be sata compatible (the more sata ports the better i have found some with 4 ports)
gpu -> read below
lcd display -> Samsung 215tw (best panel u can get in europe in that range as here the nec gx2 is screwed up and dells are  more expensive than any other brand lol)

second
in Q4 ill change cpu for conroe 6600, get as mobo a new asus crossfire compatible and get 2gb of ddr2 800mhz ram

that said i go onto the gpu, i have been always planning that my next card would be an asus for the great support ppl talk about, as i have read here ati resellers are way worst than nvidians and asus with a 3 year warranty is a nice option but even if gigabyte only offers 2 year, i have found that i can get from a shop

gigabyte x1900xtx for 491 euro
asus x1900xtx for 575 euro (i have lost any trust on etailers i know that i can get a better price online as low as 545 delivered but my experience is that the best vendor is the one you can hook his neck if you have any problem :| )

i ask myself if theres any reason to get an asus for that price i personally cannot convince myself and looking in the forum i have read praises for gigabyte so i only need to be sure im not getting something wrong

i would also appreciate any advice about the rest of the computer and before anyone says it
i know than i will be severily cpu/ram limited till Q4
i want hdr with aa u know wht i mean
i know that ati plans a refresh with r580 plus and that nvidia will release a directx10 compatible sometime in late Q3 but i need it know if u really think u would wait just look below at my sig

I would get the Asus X1900XT as it has a 3-year warranty on it, which would last you until 2009.

well in fact im not keeping it for such a long time as i will be selling it in H1 2007 so i can buy a decent directx 10 card, but i dont forget that a 3 year warranty adds some reselling value, so maybe ill be dropping the gigabyte as im pretty sure i will be getting more money back from the asus once i sell it.

If you plan on getting a new vid card shortly into the new year, why not get a good card that has price for performance, such as the 7600GT. It's a pretty powerful card for the price and next year when you plan on getting another card, you will have alot more money saved up and you will be able to get what you want. I read some reviews on the card and it looks like a gem of a value.

If you're going to be selling it that soon, then I wouldn't be getting a card that expensive. I would either get the Gigabyte card and save some money, or better yet, get something less expensive like a 7600GT or X1800XT.
