Gigabyte Odin Pro 800W and GTX480 SLI

So, currently I own a Gigabyte Odin Pro 800W PSU which has two pairs of PCIe power connectors. Here are the specs:

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=2493#sp

Also, I have an MSI N480GTX in my comp. I'm about to buy a pair for this card (exact same thing, also: non-lightning version, it's the basic stuff).

Otherwise the setup is the same as in my sig (assume no-OC for the SLI setup, so no OC on the CPU and no OC on the GPUs).

Do you think this PSU will be able to drive these cards? I can't find reliable info on the wattage of these cards.

I also don't have a wattage meter unfortunately.

Thanks for any advice.

Worst case scenario is that I move to a different PSU but I'd rather use this one.

Just don't run Furmark, there is no hardware/software limiting on the gtx 480 and you can see here, http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_480_SLI/26.html
Furmark can pull almost 150 more watts out of 480 sli, and cook them, literally .

Thanks for the info guys. I'll put in the second card tomorrow. I had a feeling there was some catch to it (Furmark and all).

Okay, what about that Starcraft II issue I used to hear about? Was something about the opening screen being rendered at max FPS or somesuch. Could that make the cards smoke this PSU?

That bug in Starcraft II which renders the menus at unrestricted frame-rates was only a problem on poorly cooled video cards. If you have proper ventilation with the stock cooler on any video card it should not fail.

That said, the bug in Starcraft II was fixed shortly after release.

As everyone else has said, your PSU will be fine with those video cards.

Personally I wouldn't put two 480s on less than a 1000W PSU. I think there is more than Furmark to worry about, some games are known to put a higher draw on cards than others. But you may be good, let us know how it goes.

My CPU and cards are overclocked and I think I pull around 1200W. I guess I would watch it because I think you will be very close to the limit of your PSU and its better to have your PSU operating at say 75% of its total output than it is to be at 95%.

Groove, you are running a third card and the 920 at 4.2GHz along with X58 users considerably more power than a 2500k at 4.4GHz. I do not know what volts you or the OP are running, but if I had to guess the OP is pulling no more than 100 watts on the CPU using Prime 95 (this is HW Monitor measurement)

Well, the PSU seems to be holding. I was able to run 3DMark11 without issues. One of the cards is tightly stacked with my sound card and tends to go up to 80C while the other maxes out at about 68 or so.

No smokes yet.

So you say I should stay away from Furmark and associates?

You can run furmark, but the system MAY shut down due to overload. That said if you run furmark without a CPU stress program running it will be fine.
