Gigabyte Not Booting HDD ???

Gigabyte GA-965P-S3 ver1.0 bios vF12

I have Vista installed on a SATA 3.0 and currently in the 1st spot on the SATA 2 Controler.

When I plug the second SATA 3.0 into the ICH8 Sata controler I get through the detection and then it gives me the message boot error please load drive CD/DVD.

The second drive only has data on it as a storage drive. All was booting fine in this config but after a restart is no longer.

The rig is as configured below.

if the 1st drive is plugged into the sata 2 controller that is usually the addon controller so what happens is the drive that is plugged into the ich8 gets first priority. you would have to go into the bios and change the hard drive priority to say that the drive plugged into the sata 2 controller is before the ich8 drive

Look for a 'Boot' section in the BIOS and find a listing that lets you change boot order. Look through all the items in the drop-down menu and make sure the drive you wish to boot from is at the top.

If you use AHCI or RAID, there might be more specific items in the list (instead of generic 'Hard Disk' or 'CD-ROM') so look for those as well.
