I have GA-E7AUM-DS2H motherboard. I'm running win Vista home premium on it. I think I've picked up some nasty malware/virus at belar.com. I tried to download their advisor program and ever since then, the download failed 3 times, my computer has been unusable. Windows explorer doesn't work, I can't start programs, I can't use the pc for almost anything.

I was downloading belarc advisor because I was going to updgrade this pc to Win 7. So I've decided to go ahead and install win 7. But I can't do it. My bios is set to boot from the cdrom, I put the win 7 disc in the cdrom and it boots off the hard drive.

I can't even boot up in safe mode because when I get to the windows error recovery screen my arrow keys don't move the cursor. How can I boot off a cd if the bios won't recognize it? I replaced the mb battery, no change.

You'll have to check the bios carefully again if its really set to boot from the dvd drive.

Believe me, I have checked the bios more than a dozen times. That's why I replaced the mb battery, I thought maybe my changes weren't being saved for some reason. This bios even has a boot order shorcut that lets you set the boot device one time. All of that gives the same results. I've also done several searches on this. Varying forum posts suggest hitting F2, F12 and holding down Alt while hitting F10. None have allowed me to boot up from the CD.

the current malware will do that
with ea passing day they get worse and worse
They do that so you cant run a repair or syst restore or a rescue anti-Vir

If the HDD is a spinner, you need to run freeware killdisk (booted CD DOS mode) to wipe (zero fill) the drive
SSD needs secure erase.
Which of course means total data loss
They also prevent internet connect (and change permissions in system files), so if you can connect you can try BD cloud scan
http://www.bitdefender.com/scanner/online/free.html
After you get going use bitdefender Total security 2012.
It seems to be the only one that can get at them.
Its a bit user unfriendly, but worth the effort.
Of course you could just use Linux Mint 11 in dual boot with Win 7 for internet and email and never worry about trojans again

You could also clone your O/S partition to other HDD partition, and do scheduled updating with Casper V 7.0. At the first hint of virus, you just change boot drive and clone back.

Out of curiosity what AV are you using now?
