Gigabyte K8NXP-SLI - nTune Lockups

Hey guys, I am trying to run nTune version 2.00.17.05 with my Gigabyte K8NXP-SLI but each time I run the app it locks up the PC.

Has anyone had any luck running nTune on an nForce 4 motherboard? I know the Asus SLI board can run it fine, so I'm not sure what the problem is on my setup 🙁

I had the same lockup problem with N-Tune. I also noticed NTUNE wasn't included on a CD with the mobo. I just downloaded it off the web (NVIDIA's site I think). Anyways, after the lockup I just assumed it wasn't compatible. I use Clockgen for nforce4. Just do a search for clockgen or "cpu-z" on google. It is better IMHO.

I don't know about the XP120, but it has plenty of room for a large vapochill LS head (what I use). Even with DPS on. So I would think it should fit.

BTW, this board is the overclockers dream. Stable, high voltage options, overclocks to high HTT/FSB, just like Anand said in his review. It comes highly recommended!

I just got an email from Thermalright about XP-120/K8NXP-SLI compatibity. This guy thought--but clearly wasn't certain--that there might be some trouble:
First of all you will need a metal backplate. Second, the XP-120 may interfere with the first DIMM slot or the caps just in front of it, and it will be close in either case.

I love my K8NXP-SLI, even though I'm not using the SLI feature of it. I'd have got the -9 if there had been any available, but oh well.

Speed has been great, and stability awesome, though i'm not overclocking.

Ive got a K8NXP-9 nForce4 Ultra and tried to fit a XP120, Apart from the fact that it needs a back plate to screw into, which I didn't have at that point. It hangs over the first 2 Dim slots and gets way too close to the capacitors next to the cpu. I changed to a Gigabyte rocket pro.

Overall I really enjoy this mobo. It's gotto be the best board I've used yet.
Problems: Nvidia software (Firewall/Active armour, Ntune) don't even waste your time expierementing with it, you'll never get them to work, blu screens, freezups and all kinds of crazy crap. The only Vid driver that stablized my rig was 67.66, all the others caused major probs with dvd, clip viewing and spdif stream.
NOTE* To all who may be strapped onto a Gigabyte K8NXP-SLI: If you want to keep yo 6800 GT's
from becoming no more than PCI slot covers,
Warning: Do not use TURBO mode in RGB/Robust Graphics Booster on this boards bios.
Sure it will OC yo cards but there is no stepping here,
it's all out balls to the wall in Turbo. My BFG's are 370/1000 out of the box.
After enabling Turbo they shot up to 410/1001, ran 05 bench, crashed & blu-screened
except the screen was not blu, it was rainbow colored.
Fortunately BFG was kind enough and sympathetic to my SLI cause and RMA'd two more cards.

The current version of Nvidia's nTune is not compatable with the any of the Gigabyte nForce4 based motherboards. It says so here...

http://www.nvidia.com/object/motherboards.html

I found out the hard way. I installed it and got lock ups and BSOD's. Low and behold nTune doesn't even support it.

Hey roomraider, I wondered where you went after I created that K8NXP-SLI thread on guru3D. I posted a few things I haven't heard back from anyone.

For the most part my build of the K8NXP-SLI has gone fine. I am just running a single 6800 GT for the time being.

The one thing I found out yesterday though is that my floppy doesn't seem to work. I have to do some more testing but I hooked up a known working drive and it doesn't work either. Tried a few cables too. I hope it isn't the motherboard.
